Senior School Report

Year 10 and 11 Exams

The Semester One, Year 10 and 11 exams will commence on Tuesday 8 June and conclude on Thursday 17 June.  During the examination period, the Year 10 and Year 11 students’ timetable will be replaced by the examination timetable.  Students will complete an exam for each of the subjects they have undertaken during the semester. The examination period is aimed at providing our students with invaluable examination experience, whilst also enabling our students to consolidate and demonstrate the key knowledge and skills gained over the course of their semester studies.

Students are only required to attend school for their exams.  If a student only has an exam in the morning session, they will be dismissed at the conclusion of that exam.  Should students have exams in both the morning and afternoon sessions, they are required to remain at school during the break and complete private study in the Senior School Hub.  A private study room will be provided should students wish to study at school rather than at home and, in this event, the student must sign in at the General Office.

Attendance for exams is compulsory.  Students must have a medical certificate for illness if they are absent and students will be required to complete a missed exam on the Exam Catch-up Day or an alternate time negotiated with the Head of Senior School.

The Year 10 and 11 Exam Timetable and Exam Rules are available on Compass for Year 10 and Year 11 students and parents / carers.  We wish our students the best for this upcoming examination period.

Year 12 Practice Exams – English and Maths

Exams are an important part of a student’s assessment and form an integral part of a student’s study score and their ATAR. Evidence demonstrates that students who have practice under examination conditions are better prepared for the rigours of the end of year exams.

The College is conducting two compulsory Year 12 practice exams on Friday 18 June, designed to assist our Year 12 students become familiar with the requirements and expectations in readiness for their VCAA exams.  It also provides the opportunity for our students to consolidate key knowledge and skills gained over the course of their Unit 3 English and Maths studies.

Attendance is compulsory for all VCE Year 12 students in the morning.  Students will complete the English exam in the morning and those students studying Further Maths and Maths Methods will complete their exam in the afternoon. Students who do not study Maths will be dismissed from the college after the English exam at 12 pm.

The Year 12 Exam Timetable and Exam Rules are available on Compass for Year 12 students and parents / carers. Thank you for supporting this important Year 12 learning opportunity.

College Policy Reminder - Mobile phone and personal device policy

Students who choose to bring mobile phones and / or personal devices to school must have them switched off and securely stored in their lockers during school hours, including recess and lunchtime.  Students’ personal devices include smart watches brought onto school premises during school hours. Any exceptions to the Mobile Phone and Personal Device policy must be authorised by the Principal.

Possessing a mobile phone or electronic device in an assessment task is a breach of assessment rules. The college’s assessment procedures are in line with the VCAA rules for the conduct of assessments.

VCAL Activities

Victoria Police Presentation

On Thursday 13 May, the Year 11 and 12 VCAL students had two guest speakers, Kevin and Sam, from the Knox Police Station. It was a really useful session as it further developed our understanding of young people’s rights within the law.  For instance, Kevin spoke about safety while driving. We learnt a lot about the dangers of using your phone while driving, drinking while driving and driving recklessly. It was particularly insightful to learn that P Platers have the highest number of accidents on the roads. This taught us how important it is to be safe, careful and have your wits about you when driving.

Our guest speakers had a lot of interesting things to say about the Police Academy and some of the training involved.  We also learnt about the rights that a victim, a witness and an accused person has.  Additionally, we learnt about the strict rules that the police have to follow.  Overall, this was a very interesting and beneficial experience and on behalf of the VCAL students, we would like to thank Kevin and Sam for taking time out of their busy daily schedules to speak to us.

Mock Interviews

On Thursday 6 May, five representatives from the Rotary Club of Knox conducted mock job interviews for the Year 11 and 12 VCAL students as part of the students’ Work-related Skills unit to develop employability skills. The students completed résumés and job application letters for a position related to their vocation education and training course that they complete on Wednesdays.

The College would like to sincerely thank our partners, the Rotary Club of Knox for their support of our college and the mock interview program. The mock interviews are a great learning experience for our students and this is demonstrated in the following student feedback:

“Helpful real-life experience”

“The feedback from the interviewer was really helpful. I feel much better prepared for my next real job interview”

The experience has helped me prepare for the future”

“I learnt how to improve my job application and job interview skills”

“The interviewer was supportive and honest”
