Principal's Report

Principal's Message

Dear Families,

As we once again experience the uncertainty of another lock-down due to Covid-19, can I please reassure everyone that the school is ready for, and has planned for, this scenario. The school staff have prepared their Google classrooms (SeeSaw for Preps)  for online learning and the 'Google meet' platform is also ready for staff, parents and students to use for online sessions.  Students who took home school chromebooks last year have already taken home their chromebooks today.  If you require the use of a school chromebook can you please notify your child's class teacher and it will be available for you to sign out at the office on Friday.

I will communicate through email with all families as information comes to me via the official channels - Victorian Government and the Catholic Education Commission of Victoria (CECV).  Please remember to stay safe and if you or your child is not feeling well then please get tested and stay home.

Our remote learning policy can be viewed below.  This policy has been ratified by the School Advisory Council and the School Staff in February 2021.

Reconciliation Week

National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

The dates for NRW remain the same each year; 27 May to 3 June. These dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey— the successful 1967 referendum, and the High Court Mabo decision respectively.

Reconciliation must live in the hearts, minds and actions of all Australians as we move forward, creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider Australian community, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

On Tuesday this week our 2 Fire Carriers Isabella and Joseph and the amazing Sonia planted an Australian native Hibiscus (which is a symbol of Reconciliation week) in the John Ashe Playground Indigenous meeting space.  Special thanks to Mrs Poulter our Indigenous Perspectives Leader for organising this important act of recognition.

Bike Ed training and Camp

Today was our last Bike Ed session for the Year 4 Students.  They have now completed their 3 week (6 Sessions) training in preparation for their Bike Ed Camp in Maldon.  The Bike Ed camp has been rescheduled to Monday 19th July - Wednesday 21st July.

Extra Curricular Activities at School

I am always amazed by the extra curricular activities that happen at St. Finbar's school. Here is a list of some of the activities that we offer before school, during school time and after school:

  • Skipz Skipping Lessons
  • Chess
  • Tennis
  • Drama Time
  • Drawing Club
  • Taekwondo
  • Lego Club
  • St. Finbar's Netball Club
  • St. Finbar's Scalpers Basketball Training

You can keep track of our exciting events via our school Instagram and Facebook pages.  Just look for the Yellow and Green School logo for our official sites.

P & F Student Disco

Plans are well under way for our annual P & F Student Disco.  The date for this event is Friday 18th June and will be in the School Hall this year.  Please see further in the newsletter on the P & F page for booking information. Please also remember to keep Saturday 21st August free as it will be our Annual P & F Function evening.  It is always a lot of fun and the proceeds from this event will go towards the playground replacement that is happening in the mid year holidays.

God Bless,

Pat Berlingeri
