Thank You

It was great to be able to run a barbeque at sport last Saturday. I extend grateful thanks to all the parents who volunteered on the day. Any profits made from the Canteen are reinvested in BMGS sport so your efforts are certainly worthwhile.

BMGS U14 XV were defeated by Central Coast Grammar School, 38-10

The U14’s started brightly again with a carbon copy 1st try of the match to Max Klein to put BMGS up 5-0. Things looked to improve soon after with some fantastic pick & drive play that got BMGS within a metre of the line before turning the ball over and conceding a length of the field try at the other end to trail 5-7. As the half wore on, CCG started to dominate the technical battle at the breakdown and BMGS struggled for possession and were trailing at half time 5-19. The second half produced the same result with 3 tries to 1 and a final scoring of 10-38.   Notable performances included Jon McHugh and Charlie Mannes in their second games, making some strong runs and developing his effectiveness over the ball. Captain Zac Filla tirelessly plugged away setting a great example for his team. Rowen Brischetto celebrated his first try with a fantastic 30m run down the right hand sideline evading 3three would-be tacklers. William Houghton and Jake Elliott also showed some good improvement in their second games.   Congratulations on the team for playing the game in a great spirit.

BMGS U15 XV defeated Central Coast Grammar School, 24-19

What an exciting game! Going down to the wire, the U15s held off a fast-finishing CCGS side to prevail by five points. In the first half, it looked like it might be all one way traffic, with three early tries to BMGS. Hamish McLeod opened the scoring with a no nonsense ‘get out of my way’ bustling 25m run for his maiden try. Tom Hitchenson scored shortly after, off the back of some dominant forward play. Freddy Horwood then scored his first try of the year out wide, following on from some great teamwork and tactical kicking producing some consistent territory pressure. BMGS went into the half-time break up 17-7.  Fitness on the soggy field, combined with running up hill and into the wind started to take its toll in the second half. Injuries, firstly  to Fred Horwood, then to Elit Hok, left the team running out of steam as CCG put on two late tries to set up a nail-biting final few minutes with the score 24-19. Credit to the BMGS resolve as they ground out the final few minutes to notch up their fist win.

BMGS 1st XV were defeated by Central Coast Grammar School, 57-7

This week, BMGS was at home for the first time in the season and the students took on Central Coast Grammar School in a tough and exhausting rugby match. The ground did not provide the ideal playing conditions due to heavy rain earlier in the week. In the first couple of minutes of the game it was a physical game, with big tackles made on both sides. Central Coast’s line defence was fast and it was difficult for Blue Mountains to gain momentum. Soon after, gaps started to open up in the middle and along the wings leading to Central Coast scoring a number of tries in the first half. Students were able to rally in the second half and showed great determination and perseverance to stay in the contest. However, Central Coast was a skillful and well-drilled squad and capitalise on Blue Mountains lapses in defence and any missed tackles. In the last minute of the game, students decided to change up the attack by placing a grubber kick behind the unsuspecting Central Coast defence and were able to score a try. BMGS will play St Andrews away for round 3.

BMGS Open Cs were defeated by Central Coast Grammar School, 2-0

The Open Cs played a very tight game last weekend. We didn't come out with the win we hoped for, but we held up and didn't let them score in the second half. We would like to thank Tara and Ashley for playing up from the Juniors and playing against Year 11s and 12s. Also thanks to Jade who played goalie during the first half and saved many of the other team's shots.  We had quite a few close shots at goal and during the second half we had most of the possession of the ball.  The team defended well and fought hard throughout the whole game, without giving up. We all took a lot from the game and we look forward to next weekend. Good game, girls.

BMGS First XI drew with Central Coast Grammar School, 3-3

Even though we drew 3-3, it felt like a loss. In our first half, the team's chemistry was immaculate; the triangles were effective and the first touch was there. Rosie scored the first goal and then Indi followed up with the next two. However, in the last fifteen minutes of the game, CCGS scored their first goal and this resulted in the loss of confidence. The tiredness due to the lack of subs and the frustration resulted in a draw. We have learnt from this week and we will bring our A game next week.

Boys' Football - Round 1

BMGS 14s were defeated by Oxley College, 7-0

In the first round against Oxley College, BMGS lost the coin toss and the opposition chose to kick off. They started well and scored a goal in the first ten minutes. BMGS' game deteriorated from there. By the end of the first half, Oxley was winning and the scoreline was 4-0. In the second half Oxley scored three more goals, one of which was a penalty. BMGS held them back for the last 15 minutes, not letting them score again, yet not scoring ourselves. By the end of the second half Oxley had secured a comprehensive win over BMGS, with the final score 7-0.

BMGS 15s defeated Oxley College, 11-1

The U15s had an incredibly successful first game against Oxley College. After taking a few minutes to settle into their formation, the BMGS strikers began to hit the opposition hard, scoring 5 goals in the first half. Oxley came back to score a single goal at the start of the second half, despite the outstanding efforts of the BMGS defence. However, our boys held the lead through skill and endurance, with the BMGS 15s coming away with a win of 11–1!

Goals: Harry Daniels (4), Flynn Nicholls (2), Monty Darwin (2), Angus Herron (2), Oxley own goal (1).

BMGS 2nd XI defeated Oxley, 2-1

The BMGS 2nd XI faced off against Oxley in the first round of winter sport. Grammar took the lead early on through a neat finish from Trinity Camilleri off a corner. Oxley struggled to create a lot of chances in the first half and Grammar went into the half 1-0 up. After the break a revitalised Oxley levelled the score, the game looked set to be a draw until a lovely piece of play allowed Erasmus Darwin to score a late winner, sending the Seconds XI into euphoria about grabbing their first win.    Goals scored by Trinity Camilleri and Erasmus Darwin; assists by Isaac Nichols and William Groenewegen. A special thanks to Rafael Davey and Oliver Roberson, who stepped in to coach the Seconds this weekend.

BMGS First XI drew with Oxley College, 0-0

Excited for their first game of the season, the 1st XI boys put up a solid effort against Oxley College's 1st XI. This game was the first for many of our players on the 1st XI team, however, they quickly proved themselves by gelling excellently with the rest of the team. The team held up a strong defense, quickly eliminating any threat to our goal, allowing our attackers and midfielders to constantly pressure the Oxley defenders. Close scoring opportunities from Luka Donnelly and Jett Fendall provided glimpses of victory, but unfortunately the game ended as a scoreless draw. This was a strong performance overall, with promising signs for the future. We hope to learn from our errors and translate this into positive performances in following weeks.

Boys' Football – Round 2 vs CCGS

BMGS 15s drew with Central Coast Grammar School, 2-2

For the second round of the fixture, U15s found themselves playing football on a rather muddy junior field, due to weather making the regular fields unsafe. It took a while for the team to adjust to playing on a much smaller field, with many shots at goals ending up outside the posts.  Two spectacular goals were eventually scored by Flynn Nicholls and Harry Daniels. An unfortunate goal from the opposition in the first half meant BMGS were pressed hard, but ultimately ended the game with a draw, 2-2. A special mention must be made of our player of the match, Callum Knussen, whose quick reflexes in goals stopped some on-target shots from CCGS strikers.

BMGS 2nd XI defeated Central Coast Grammar School, 3-1

The 2nd XI took an early lead thanks to a nice finish from substitute Angus, before a harsh penalty call, which resulted in Central Coast equalising in the corner, despite our keeper Bill Klein diving the right way. We were dominant in possession in the first half, and responded very well to being pressured with the ball – particularly our midfielders. Early in the second half, co-captain Isaac Nicholls managed to deflect the ball into the goal to give us the lead once again. What followed that was some great defensive work that let us maintain our lead, by defender Jaxon Fraser keeping his cool - and the ball – and clearing it while our goal was open. With just a few minutes to go, Bill saved a nerve-wracking free kick and we quickly pounced on the counter-attack, which resulted in Central Coast drawing a foul inside their box and giving us a free kick of our own. Jaxon buried the free kick in the bottom corner to give the Seconds a convincing 3-1 victory.  Special thanks to Jono Chongbang, Monty Darwin, Richard Cunningham, Harry Daniels and Angus Herron who all played up so that our team could have a full squad.

BMGS First XI were defeated by Central Coast Grammar School, 4-1

The First XI boys were met with pressing competition this week, with the opposition's attack relentlessly putting our defence back on their heels. The boys held up for as long as they could but unfortunately had four goals slip by them. Towards the end of the match, when spirits were down, striker Raphael Davey managed to revive some energy for the team and score a late goal, spreading positivity as they gave it their all for the last ten minutes of the match. With a final score of 4-1 against us, the BMGS Firsts will be reconsidering their strategies for their next encounter against CCGS.
