Year 12 Design & Technology SHAPE Powerhouse Excursion

On Thursday, 6th May, Year 12 Design & Technology students travelled to Sydney to visit the Powerhouse Museum of Applied Arts. The aim of this excursion was to visit the Shape Exhibition, which showcases the top Major Design Projects and Folios in Design & Technology across the state. After a train trip, we visited the One Central Park building, where we observed its innovative architecture and examined the functionality of building features.

We then ventured down to the Powerhouse Museum of Applied Arts Sydney (MAAS) to engage with the Shape Exhibition. The exhibition, featuring works from past students in Design & Technology, Industrial Technology, and Textiles & Design, gave us the opportunity to see the level of success we wish to achieve within our own major works. We also has the opportunity to observe other exhibitions at the Powerhouse. These included Iranzamin, which featured historical artefacts from ancient Persia, and Fantastical Worlds, which featured baroque European art pieces in multiple mediums.

We also visited another great of Architecture, the Frank Gehry designed Dr. Chau Chak building (affectionately called the Brown Paper Bag) at UTS. Year 12 then headed to Spice Alley, where we had lunch and desert before hopping back on a train home to the mountains.

Overall, the experience was instrumental in the assistance of Year 12 Design & Technology students with their Major Design projects. Our thanks to our teacher, Mr Brendan O’Keeffe, for organising everything.
