Senior School

This week in the Senior School our Year 7 and 9 students have been busy completing their NAPLAN Examinations. For those less familiar with NAPLAN, it stands for the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy. NAPLAN is a national program of testing held in Years 3, 5, 7, and 9 across Australia. It is focused on the literacy and numeracy skills students need to engage with their academic learning at School. NAPLAN is not mapped directly to the English nor to the Mathematics curriculum, but rather measures whether or not students have met nationally-determined benchmarks. While students and parents may be concerned with achievement in NAPLAN, it is in reality simply a tool used by schools to guide our planning in our teaching and learning.

While our students have typically performed well in NAPLAN over many years, we also know that these tests measure only a narrow range of skills and knowledge that contribute to the overall success of young people, and in no way measure the character attributes or learning dispositions.

We wish all our students well as they await their results.
