House Spirit

If you are unaware the theme for 2021 at Calrossy is new beginnings. There have been many new beginnings already this year. New beginnings offer a chance to try something different, or add a tweak to something that may have happened for years. House Music is one of these. For many years the secondary girls houses competed against each other in the House Music competition. These were always hotly contested and included some exceptional musical performances. So too the secondary boys have always had a culture of singing, most notably in Term 4 during the Performing Arts Night.

This year saw a new beginning for House Music, separated into 7-9 and 10-12 choral performances. This offered both our Year 9 and 12 student leaders wonderful opportunities to lead from the front. Most importantly it was a great occasion for building house spirit! It was great to see the enthusiasm as each House competed against the others. To see students step outside of their comfort zone and give it their best.

This Friday marks a similar occasion for house spirit, the Athletics Carnival. This will be the first time that the boys and girls compete together in the new houses. And just as some had to step out of their comfort zone and sing in front of an audience, so too we are calling on all students to get in and have a go. Track and field events may not be everyone’s thing, but it is this have a go attitude that has always stood out in our 102 year history at Calrossy. All students are asked to arrive and leave in school sports uniform, though they may wear house colours during the day. The athletics carnival promises to be a great day, may the best House win!
