Bye Bye Birdie
By Joyce Wu, Year 12
I started at Kilvington in Year 9 in 2018, and I’ve been part of various choirs and the orchestra since.
I have participated in two school productions in Years 9 and 10, Bye Bye Birdie and The Addams Family. After we performed, we got lots of positive feedback from the audience, which helped me to gain confidence and have a positive view of life.
I am also a member of the contemporary choir and Kadences (girls’ choir). We have lots of opportunities to perform each year for music concerts such as the Jazz Cabaret, Winter Concert, Annual Concert as well as at School Assembly and so on. I have also participated in orchestra since Year 9 and now I’m first cello in the orchestra. It feels really harmonious when we do the same thing together.
In my opinion, the best part of being in choirs and orchestra is making friends and enjoying the music with mates and teachers. Furthermore, it can also help to improve your skills, such as singing or playing one or more instruments.
I have been able to teach other students about music that, firstly, it can let you meet lots of friends who have the same preferences as you. Secondly, while you are doing music, whether individually or with others, you’ll have lots of fun, especially when you feel stressed from your school work. Music can take you to another world which can help you feel more relaxed, peaceful and calm.
If you choose any music subjects at school, the participation in music will definitely help you!
