Year 8 boys Cricket team
On Tuesday the 13th March we took two year 7 Boys cricket teams to Donath Reserve to compete in their first ever Divisional Competition. The boys played very well together with both teams easily defeating Reservoir and William Ruthven. The last match of the day was Northcote A vs Northcote B. Northcote B put up a strong fight, but just weren’t quite strong enough and Northcote A finished the day as outright winners. Due to a whole school event, Thornbury were unable to attend. Northcote A will play against Thornbury, date yet to be decided. We would like to thank our Mr Healey and his Student Coaches Luke Williams, Ethan McKenzie, Miles Fricke and Liam Kanizay for helping us out with such a short time frame to get 2 teams ready play in week 3 of the school year. Great effort by all.
Yr 7 Girls moved straight through to the Regionals as there are no other teams entered in our Division. The regionals will be played in term 4.
Congratulations to our Yr 8 boys Cricket team who cruised their way through the Divisional Competition on Wednesday 14th March. The boys had 2 easy wins against Reservoir and William Ruthven. As usual Thornbury was our toughest opponent, but once again our boys were too strong for them with Harry Ellis finishing off the game with a hat-trick. Top scorers for the day were Archie Gruenert and Max Daphne. A big thank you Mr Bartholomew and our student coaches Alex Johnson and Julian Marshal for coaching/umpiring and scoring. The team now moves through to the Regional finals to be played later in the year.
Our Yr 8 Girls also move straight through to the Regionals as there are no other teams entered in our Division. The regionals will be played in term 4.
Please note, the date of the Swimming Carnival has now changed to Thursday 15th March. As mentioned in the previous newsletter, the format has changed this year. We are no longer having a Northcote High School Carnival, instead we are having a Divisional Carnival in which swimmers will be competing against other schools in our Division - Thornbury High School, Reservoir High School, William Ruthven and EPIC. In the next few weeks we will be giving students the opportunity to sign up for individual events. Please keep an eye on the MyNorthcoteHigh newsfeed. We will also be promoting this through Daily Connect.
The sisters competed in State Life Saving events at South Melbourne beach on the weekend representing the South Melbourne Life Saving Club and won gold! Sarah Robinson in 2 person Rescue & Resuscitation in the Under 15s and Ava Robinson in the Under 13s Belt & Reel.
Last year Sarah was also a gold medallist at the state level for 2 person R&R. She was also a gold medallist at States for 5 person R&R and a silver medallist at the National level on the Gold Coast for 5 person R&R. This year Sarah will be competing again at States for 5 person R&R in March and in April at Nationals in Perth.
