Melbourne University partnership: developing teacher candidates

Northcote becomes base school for Melbourne Graduate School of Education

We are delighted to announce that this year Northcote has become a 'base school' for the University of Melbourne's Graduate School of Education (MGSE) Master of Teaching program. This means that we are the Lead School coordinating a network of five other partnership schools in the area who work with University of Melbourne to provide high quality clinical teaching experience to teacher candidates. Throughout the year we will host 10-15 candidates over three practical rounds. They will be supported by our experienced teachers, as well as by an in-school Teaching Fellow, Megan Young, and a Clinical Specialist from the MGSE.

High quality teacher education programs are vital for the future of schools, and Northcote is proud to be contributing to this aspect of system improvement. The partnership also benefits the school more directly in a number of ways, through opportunities for shared professional learning and access to talented and well-trained graduate teachers who have already had an opportunity to experience Northcote life.
