Megan Franklyn

Assistant Principal

It is hard to believe that we are only a week away from the start of Winter and are halfway through term 2! What a busy time it has already been at Kingswood this term. I had the huge pleasure of attending the Year Six camp in Canberra where students and teachers learnt a lot about the history of our nation’s capital and the way that parliament operates. A huge thank you to the staff involved for making this event happen.

Access to Engage 1:1 Psychologist at school

One of my main roles here at Kingswood is supporting the well-being and mental health of students. As such, I work with our psychologist Connie Harris from Engage 1:1 to support students with a diverse range of needs. Connie is a dedicated primary school and early adolescent school psychologist, skilled at providing positive direction for students’ academic, social and emotional wellbeing. She works effectively with children with ADHD and with multicultural and diverse populations. She uses worksheets and play therapy to help children to be able to move forward and reach their potential. Connie also has a background as a registered nurse, midwife, has worked in disability and has a degree in Social Welfare. She uses a client centred approach and as she has a nursing background, she has a great deal of experience in the health medical and wellbeing field.

If you are interested in accessing Connie’s services you will need to access a Mental Health Care plan from your GP then contact me via megan.franklyn@education.vic.gov.au for the relevant consent and release of information forms. Connie currently works here at Kingswood on a Wednesday.

ANZAC Appeal

I am also very excited to announce that our students and families raised $227.30 for the ANZAC appeal by selling products on behalf of the RSL. The money raised provides welfare to support ex-service men and women and assists in providing for war veterans and their dependents, care of the aged, family welfare and community and aged care visiting.

Reconciliation Week

Our Special Celebrations working party has organised some lunchtime activities to acknowledge National Reconciliation Week which is recognised in Australia from the 27th May to the 3rd of June. The theme for 2021 is “More than a word. Reconciliation takes action.” We will be holding our lunchtime activities on the 9th and 11th of June. Children will be able to come to the library to hear Dreamtime stories and will be able to create their own artwork that tells a story using Aboriginal symbols.

Professional Learning Communities

Once again, this term our school successfully opened our doors to other schools within the Bayside Peninsula area to showcase the work that we are doing within our Professional Learning Communities. We had around 30 teachers and leaders from a range of schools come to visit and hear about the journey that we have been on, they then watched our Prep and Year Two Professional Learning Communities in action and had the opportunity to ask questions about our processes and structures that allow us to work in this way.
