'Come to Work With Me' webinars

On Wednesday 9th June the Victorian Local Learning & Employment Networks (VicLLENs) launched their Come to Work With Me Careers Program.  This initiative provides a regular series of online school-industry engagement webinars that are free to students.

The first episode featured Kane Williams, an engineer working on Victoria's Big Build projects.  Kane studied an Advanced Diploma of Engineering and an Advanced Diploma in Engineering (Technology) after high school. This vocational qualification has helped Kane get to where he is today.

Careers in the Outdoors

I just love being a forester. I get to work outside, interact with great people, visit classrooms, explore nature, perform aerial observations of forestland, assess fire risk, and fight fire. I wear many hats in my profession and I hope my story inspires others to pursue exciting careers in the outdoors.

Jamie Knight, Forester

Lovers of the Great Outdoors, wouldn’t it be great if you were able to follow your passion for being outside and turn it into a career? There are so many opportunities that are open to working outdoors and here are some to consider:

  • Park Ranger
  • LifeGuard
  • Farmer
  • Marine Biologist
  • Geologist
  • Geoscientist
  • Landscaper
  • Surveyor
  • Environmentalist
  • Australian Defence Force
  • Victorian Police, where you can access multiple careers that are outside the office eg. forensics, dog squad, search and rescue, water police, just to mention a few.

Then there are the creative fields, such as Film and Television photography and producers

Some of the careers mentioned require ATAR scores for university entry, some require TAFE courses and then there are careers where you train on the job. Others may not need formal qualifications, but work experience in related fields may be adequate.

There are many more videos with other outdoor careers that may be of interest.

For a comprehensive list of courses (including the many double-degree options) on offer at Victorian universities, TAFEs, and Private Providers, visit VTAC.
