Careers & Pathways

It is a very busy and productive time in the Senior School during Term 3, with students undertaking Course Counselling to help them decide on their subjects for the following year and possible future pathways.

Year 11-12 Course Counselling and Subject Selection took place in Week 1 with every Year 11 student having a 15 minute appointment to discuss their subject choices for Year 12 and future pathways.

Year 10-11 Course Counselling took place on Thursday 30th July, with Year 10 Parent/Guardians and students booking an appointment to discuss subject selection for Year 11 and possible pathways. These interviews were held remotely. Students also had the opportunity to attend the virtual VCE/VCAL/VET EXPO on Tuesday 21st July and an information night was held virtually for parents/guardians and students as well.

Year 12 Course Counselling and pathways discussions will begin in Week 5. All Year 12 VCAL and VCE students will take part in this process. A general briefing will be held for VCAL students on Monday 10th August- period 2 in their class and VCE students will receive their briefing on Tuesday 11th August during periods 3 or 4.

During Weeks 6 and 7, every Year 12 student will have a 25 minute interview scheduled to discuss their options for 2021. Then in Week 8, there will be another briefing to explain how to apply for Tertiary courses through VTAC, Special consideration schemes (SEAS) and scholarships.

Finally there will be a quick 15 minute follow up appointment in Weeks 9 or 10 to finalise courses for 2021, as applications are due to VTAC by September 30th at 5PM.

We look forward to working with all Year 12 students throughout the rest of the term and assisting them with their pathway choices.

TERTIARY OPEN DAYS 2020.

Open days at Tertiary Institutions such as Universities and TAFE Institutes occur throughout the month of August.  It is a perfect opportunity for students to visit virtually the Campus they may wish to study at and to find out firsthand about courses and likely career paths.  There is also the opportunity to chat to current students and course representatives. This year, due to the COVID situation, all open days will be virtual.

It is important to make the time to plan your future; in fact, we encourage not only Year 12 students to attend Open Days, but also Year 10 & 11 students so they can start planning their future pathways.

I have included a link to the 2020 list of Open Days for Universities and TAFE Providers: https://www.vtac.edu.au/opendays.html

I have also included the link to the La Trobe University Open Day which occurs this Sunday 2nd August as an example: https://www.latrobe.edu.au/openday/melbourne-program

Students who are attending Open Days should check the institutions website beforehand for details and times for information sessions to be held on the days, so that they can maximise their experience. You may also need to register on their website.
