AIC CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONS – 4 YEARS IN A ROW!!

In what was a very close competition yesterday at Curlew Park, our courageous cross country team retained their AIC Championship with a 1 point victory over Villanova College. Despite battling numerous injuries to our top runners throughout the season and some of our best runners not available to run yesterday the team united together to produce a very impressive victory. Next week’s newsletter will provide a more comprehensive wrap up of the season, but for now, we congratulate all runners and coaching staff on an exceptional performance. In particular, we acknowledge the leadership shown by team captain Harry Hunter, Head coach Mr Shane Ward and the great organisation of the 2020 program by our coordinator Mr Matt Ingram. Well done!

Last weekend was an enormous day of sport with basketball and tennis finals in the early part of the day followed by a full college trial in rugby and football with St. Laurence’s. There were some good early signs for both sports and our aim is now to take this to another level of performance. When we return from this long weekend there are only four weeks in the season. There is not much time to get things right. With the conclusion of cross country we have completed half of our major sporting commitments for the term. The rugby and football programs are in full swing with our final trials for a few teams tomorrow (Friday, August 14) against Ambrose Treacy College representing the end of the preseason. On August 22 the official AIC season will commence for all teams in these codes.

It has certainly been a very busy period for all staff and students in sport and we emphasise the need for everyone to take care of themselves – good sleep, good nutrition, consistent hydration and take the time to rest and recover!

TRACK & FIELD – TIME TO GET GOING!

Now is the time for all of our athletes to step things up. Take the time to rest over the weekend and be ready to commence our official Track and Field season on Monday, August 17. Being 5-time champions will mean nothing this year if we do not resume the commitment to training that we are renowned for. A few colleges have been working hard in an effort to “surprise” us, but we are well aware of what they are doing. We simply need to match their commitment and start getting stuck in! A lot of information will be distributed to all students over the next few days, so please look out for these emails and notices on the College APP.

COVID-19 PROCEDURES – STILL IN PLACE

A few reminders about our procedures for managing Covid-19 at College Sport:

  • Drop off & Pick up zones – entry via Moola Road will allow you to drop your son off inside the College grounds for matches being played on McMahon and Hayden oval. Please make sure you are arriving at the time designated to each team and picking up players within 15 minutes of their match conclusion
  • Spectators – 2 parents per student are still allowed to attend
  • Check-in / Check-out procedure – there are QR codes available at every venue for all adult spectators to use their phones to check-in. This is extremely important so please remember to do so
  • Hand Sanitisers – available at all fields, first aid tents and canteens. Please use these when you can and practise social distancing!

Kind regards,

David Miles
