PAUL LITHERLAND, SURF ONLINE SAFE

It was a great pleasure to have long-term friend of the College, Paul Litherland from Surf Online Safe, return to the College to speak with students, staff and parents about online awareness and how to navigate online activity in a way that reflects our College and personal values.

Paul previously worked for the Western Australia Police for over 20 years. Over the last few years of his time with the Police force, he worked extensively in the field of Technology Crime. During this time he came to realise how limited were the resources available to school age students, parents and educators on the subject of Cyber Safety. Through Surf Online Safe Paul has been able to pursue his dream of educating and working with schools on this evolving topic.

INTERHOUSE CROSS COUNTRY CARNIVAL - TUESDAY, 11 AUGUST

The College’s Interhouse Cross Country Carnival will be held on Tuesday, 11 August and is a wonderful opportunity for our students to come together as a College. The purpose of such days is to promote connectedness of the students with each other, with their House and with the College, as well as to have some fun and competition and promote healthy activity. Our stronger runners will be vying for a place, but all competitors will be trying to earn points for their House.

In any activity organised by the College for our students, we encourage them to do their best. Attendance at the Interhouse Cross Country Carnival is compulsory for all students, and they are expected to be present at the College for the whole day. All students can contribute in a positive way to their House’s effort, whether that be as a competitor, as an official with duties on the day, or as a spectator and supporter. It is important that students do not stay at home for the day or leave the College at the beginning of the Carnival, perhaps because they wish to catch up on academic work or because running is not an interest of theirs.

Parents are asked to fully support the objectives and programs of the College and to ensure that their child/ren is/are present at the Carnival, ready to support their House to the best of their ability. Should a student be sick on the day or in the days leading up to the event, a medical certificate is encouraged and appreciated. As per the College’s attendance procedures, an accompanying parent note explaining the reason for the absence is required on the student’s return to school. If this situation arises, please contact your child’s Head of House as early as possible before the Carnival.

The Heads of House and I thank you for your support in helping to make this an enjoyable and successful College event.

Mr Tim Russell

Dean of Student Wellbeing

YEAR 7s EXCITED FOR TERM 3

In Term 3 we have access to lots of opportunities and activities. During last term and continuing into this one, all the Year 7s have been working on the Utopia Project. This is a project in which we plan and design a utopian community, bringing many different subjects together. In preparation for this, we had a talk with Paul Litherland about internet safety and awareness.

The Interhouse Athletics and Cross Country Carnivals are close and these events raise a lot of House spirit. Finally, we have our OLP camp in Week 10 at Forrest Edge which we are all very excited about. It is an opportunity to make new friends and have lots of fun. All of these events will be a first for many students and we are eager for the upcoming term.
