Stellar Performance

At The Hamilton and Alexandra College we are committed to enabling each student to be the best that they can be. We strive for academic excellence, we support each student’s learning journey and celebrate progress that is made, no matter how big or small. We look out for students who have found their passion, who are working hard, who have focus. Students who are open to new ideas, who persist, who can be pushed and at the end of the day add value to others by serving.

We are also concerned about student wellbeing and we work hard to ensure that each student is developing knowledge and skills, but also character and maintaining connection to all of life. Over the next two weeks at our weekly assembly we celebrate the importance of academic effort and student wellbeing.

Our Scholars assembly in Term 1 was an occasion to recognise individual students who had achieved academic excellence placing them in the top five positions in their year level. This week we publicly acknowledged the students who consistently demonstrated effort in their academic studies, have been consistent and able to work independently during the Remote Learning Program in Term 2. In some instances, these students made significant progress, engaged in all their classes, and really stood out form their peers. We congratulate them on a stellar performance.

We invite you to stand out this term during RLP 2.0, as a learner who is independent, motivated, and committed. Students who work hard model this for others. We would urge our students and parents to celebrate positive work ethic at home and note the small and big wins in the learning space.

VCE - Consideration of Educational Disadvantage (COVID-19)

Please find attached to this newsletter, a letter from James Merlino (Minister for Education) that provides details of new measures to address the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic on VCE students.

The Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) will introduce a new ‘Consideration of Educational Disadvantage’ process to calculate VCE scores, taking into account disruptions to learning this year. As we receive further details of the process, I will share these with you, students and our VCE teachers.

Threatened Species Bake Off

The Threatened Species Bake Off is an invitation to Australians to bake a dessert in the shape of a threatened species to commemorate Threatened Species Day on 7th September. The Bake Off aims to build awareness in the community about Australia’s remarkable and unique threatened wildlife that call Australia home. The Threatened Species Commissioner is delighted to be launching the Threatened Species Bake Off for the fourth year running in 2020!

How to participate: Using your baking skills, produce a baked creation in the shape of your chosen Australian native threatened species and share it with the Commissioner on social media. Upload an image of your baked goods to Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram by using the hashtag #TSBakeOff and tag the Threatened Species Commissioner.

Winners of the 2020 Threatened Species Bake Off will be announced on Thursday 10 September by the Threatened Species Commissioner, Dr Sally Box. The winning entries will be displayed on social media.

Submissions are open until 5pm AEST 8 September 2020.
