Student Musings

Welcome back to Semester 2

Our Senior Students had a great start back to the semester with some slight changes to entering the College - huge thanks to all the staff that are assisting as our students begin each morning.

VET Taster Courses

An opportunity for  students to participate in a 'VET Taster' activity that Ranges TEC is offering on Tuesday 21st July and Tuesday 4th August 2020.

If students are keen to find out more about VET courses, this is a practical opportunity to have some fun and get to know what VET courses are all about!

RSC Remote Cross Country Challenge 2020

Dear Students, Parents and Staff,

On Monday we will be launching the RSC remote cross country challenge.

Students will have 4 weeks to submit as many walks, runs or bike rides as they wish during this time. As the entries are received, we will be recording the kilometres travelled and tracking which house travels the furthest distance. Updates will occur regularly through compass and the connect newsletter, with a map showing each houses journey around Australia.

We will be awarding the House cup to the house that records the most kilometres over the 4-week challenge.

Students can also compete for Age group champion awards. 1st 2nd and 3rd medallions will be awarded to students with the fastest time in their age group. To be considered for this they will need to complete a specific distance. Girls in all age groups must complete a 3km run. Boys in age groups 13yr,14yr and 15yr also complete a 3km run, but those competing in the 16Yr or older age groups  must complete a 5km entry. You can submit as many entries as you like.

Evidence for all entries must be provided. Students in year 10-12 are to use the link below each time they want to send in an entry. Junior students are to use the link on in each of their scheduled PE lessons. Ensure you submit the photographic evidence that is required.

Photographic evidence examples:

You will need an app like ‘Strava’, ‘Runkeeper’ etc to allow you to provide evidence of your activity. It must clearly display the date, distance and time, possibly even a map. You should not be paying for any apps. The free versions will be fine.

House points will be awarded for:

  • Each individual entry = 1 point
  • The house with the highest Km’s each week

What do you need to do?

  • Have your Runkeeper/Strava/MapMyRun app ready to go
  • Have your active wear ready to go, house colours would be awesome.
  • Get your family members involved.
  • Set yourself goals and try to smash them!
  • Start your app, complete your exercise, stop your app
  • Use the link to upload your evidence
  • Evidence must include a screenshot of your activity with the date, distance and time, maybe even a map of where you went. Also a photo of you completing your run.

Students in Year 7-9 will be receiving more information and guidance during their PE lessons. They should ensure they attend all their Microsoft Teams meetings with their teacher.

If you have any questions, please email Ms Boutsikakis or Mr Ingleton.

Help your house be the first to travel around Australia.

Start racking up those kilometres!!!!

Regards

Ms B
