Joy

This term during staff devotions, we have been discussing the topic of Joy.  Unlike happiness, joy is true satisfaction.  We have had some wonderful testimonies and experiences shared among the group.  There are so many areas in our life that give joy and conversely, there are so many areas that seem to take joy away.  We have had staff share about their family, hobbies, successes at school and life in general.  One thing that has become reinforced over the last 8 weeks of term for many, is the difference between earthly and spiritual joy.

Earthly joy is often fleeting and temporary, while spiritual joy is sustainable and eternal.  We can be very excited about a new vehicle, house or even items of clothing.  What happens when the car is scratched, breaks down or not what you expected, are you ‘still feeling it?’, or do the new items of clothing not look the same as they did in the shop?

Joy can also be lost when unkind comments or actions are sent your way.  The default position for some is often sadness, loss of self-confidence, defense, or even anger.  In that moment, you have a choice.  Do you allow people to take your joy away, or do you look to a ‘higher’ form of joy?

Be encouraged that the joy of the Lord is eternal.  If we are safe and secure in the understanding that Jesus is our Saviour and that He died for our sins, that is the first step to having eternal joy.  In the Bible, David and John give us an insight into where eternal joy comes from:

Psalm 4:7:

You have given me more joy in my heart than at harvest times, when grain and wine abound (ISV).

John 15:11

I have told you this so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your cup of joy will overflow (TLB).

Well done to the Yr 3’s on their wonderful assembly during the week and to the Yr 4 class on receiving the Uniform Award; everyone is looking fantastic.  I look forward to seeing how the students’ progress over the next two weeks.

Enjoy your weekend!

In-school Soccer Tournament

Missing the opportunity to run the Primary Sports day in Term 1, the Primary Captains took the opportunity to run an in-house  primary soccer competition. The competition was played over 2 days in Week 6.

Congratulations to Angas who defeated Finniss in the final match. Bremer and Murray also put in solid performances.

Well done to the house captains who successfully ran the lunch time event organising all teams, coaching, scoring, refereeing, timing, setting up and packing up. It was a great day with many students wanting to be involved making it hard for the coaches to pick and run teams (a great problem to have).

Year 1/2 Class explore the Importance of Water

In Mrs Erkelenz’s class we have been learning about the importance of water in our world.  We had questions like:

  • Where does our water come from?
  • What does water feel like?
  • What is water used for?
  • Who and what uses water?
  • How can I use water responsibly?

We completed water experiments together to show how clouds become heavy with moisture before dropping it onto the earth as rain.

We learned how the water cycle works and how we use the water.  We researched our homes to find  how we use water there.  We also found out how water can be collected and reaches our home and school.  We interviewed Mr Newell, our Groundsman, to find out how the school uses water.  It was very interesting.
