Wellbeing 2020

Mike Tarleton - Assistant Principal (Engagement & Wellbeing)

Since the start of 2020, we have had an amazing group of students who want to do their part to make a difference to the lives of others. This week I'd like to celebrate the opportunities that our students have during lunch breaks.

Indoor Soccer is always popular with our Mellor students on Mondays and Thursdays. Dodgeball and Soccer for Torrens students on Tuesdays and Wednesdays with Fisher students using Active Lunch in the Gym for Dodgeball, Basketball and Tchoukball. Volleyball has started to make an appearance on the oval for our Year 7 students too.

We wanted to create opportunities for our students to connect at lunch times and have fun! Our aim is to make the Gym a hub for activity and give our students another space to access. Please talk with your child(ren) about the activities that they currently do at lunchtimes and if they have any suggestions for other lunch time activities - we'd love to hear from you!

Week 5 was the beginning of our new lunchtime activities for Early Years students.

Our Play Leaders and Year 7 students - Ella, Eleni and Amelia successfully started their lunchtime club for Reception students last week. There were plenty of smiles from both organisers and participants!

Groups of students come on different days throughout the week and the Play Leaders have organised several games to play during lunch times.

'Lockleys North students understand how the choices they make affect themselves and others.'

The reception students were fantastic with our Play Leaders, listening to instructions and having fun! It was lovely to receive a positive email about our Parachute Club last week. I passed it forward to our Play Leaders as it is always  good to hear positive feedback and praise.

‘Lockleys North students will actively seek a healthy lifestyle.’

We have another group of Year 6 Play Leaders who have started to plan a music/dance club for Year 1&2 students at lunchtimes.

Our Play Leaders Hannah, Tayla, Indi and Milli have developed a playlist to be used with wireless headphones on the Gym Stage during lunchtimes on Thursday and Friday starting in Week 6.

Our whole school Team Points began in Week 5 and we'd like to congratulate all our teams who have received points for Pursuit of Excellence, Honesty, Care & Concern and Respect.

In the first week of collecting points, Green Team amassed almost 600 points. Thanks to the hard working effort of all students in Grallina. An extra special well done to our high flyers this week - Yana from Fisher 13 with an incredible 45 points in the first week, Nia and Jason from Torrens 18, both reaching an impressive sum of 15 points each. In Mellor, Sophie, from the M5, collected an incredible 40 points for Pursuit of Excellence!

Thank you to everyone in the Grallina team that collected points and supported others. Hopefully we can stay first for the rest of the year and win two years in a row. Go Green!
