Visual Arts

In Week 10 the Junior students had some fun with a colour theme: We added a soundtrack of songs that featured the colour yellow to inspire our work. Amongst many other things we created yellow submarines, yellow taxis and yellow brick roads.

Year 5/6 students embarked on an embroidery task which required patience, perseverance and an eye for detail.

Mount Pleasant's Got Talent!!!

Next term I will be auditioning students from Year 3/4 and 5/6 for Mount Pleasant's Got Talent.  MPGT is a long standing tradition at our school and allows for students to showcase their abilities and perform to wider audience.  Although, at this stage we are unsure of the platform that MPGT will be delivered the process will remain the same.  At the start of next term students will be able to signup on a sheet given to their class teacher.  Students will then be given a scheduled time either at lunch or recess to audition in front of a panel of teachers.  After all students have auditioned the teachers will deliberate and post a finalist list.

So, start practising your dance moves, singing and juggling acts as we cant wait to see you perform.

Indonesian

Wah - we have murid fenomenal at our school! Over the past two weeks, our Junior School students have been learning about Barong - a mythological creature from Balinese Hinduism. 1/2 students have learnt about the importance of this creature and created their own Barong masks. See below for their Barong luar biasa! 3/4 students created their own silly story or lucu (pronounced “luchu”) story based off “Dua orangutan yang Lucu Sekali” using their own characters and foods. I am incredibly proud of our 5/6 students as well - as they investigated islands of Indonesia to complete their Tourist Brochures and debated the ethics of Animal Tourism with maturity and respect.

Indonesian Day is fast approaching - July 24th which is the Friday of Week 2 next term! Our classroom teachers are practising their Indonesian and preparing for an amazing day! Don't forget to have a look through your wardrobe for your merah dan putih clothes! Why not warm up for the day by cooking some nasi goreng or mie goreng? Simply prepare fried rice or noodles with your favourite vegetables and protein but add some delicious kecap manis (sweet soy sauce) and sambal (chilli sauce) for those who like it spicy!
