Curriculum

Wow what another wonderful week in the Discovery Centre! This week looked a bit different and the Foundation students were very lucky to spend Thursday with our amazing specialist teachers as our classroom teachers prepared for Term 3.

In Writing, we focused on the letter ‘w’ and in FH we practised parking our words on the baseline with our silly sentence, ‘The wacky watermelon found a wiggling worm’. We loved looking at our bean experiments and writing in our journals about the green stems and leaves that are starting to grow. It has been fantastic watching the Foundation students remember to use their spaceman and fingers to leave spaces between their words.

In Reading, we met the vowels (a, e, i, o and u) and spotted them in words when we were reading. Learning the vowels helped us to sound out some simple words when we played bingo with words that have a vowel in the middle! The Foundation students have loved reading with their teacher and practising Reading Eggs during Guided Reading this week.

We had so much fun playing some of our favourite Maths games during Week 10, including a Remote Learning favourite, 3 in a row! The Foundation students have been challenging themselves by representing numbers in different ways using new materials and number sentences. We have been impressed with their creativity and teamwork during Maths this week.

The Foundation students began to explore the Aboriginal Dreamtime with a beautiful story of the Bardi people, living north of Broome. Students did a wonderful job of following a drawing tutorial for our own parrot and used vibrant colours to decorate them. We are excited to continue to explore Aboriginal history through traditional stories!

In FH we named our class "pet" by voting on our favourite name. Tilly was the winning name over Todd, by 11 votes! We are loving having Tilly the Turtle listen to stories with us.

Pupil of the Week

FD:  Isaac D -

For showing a love of learning when working towards your goals in writing. It was great to see you have a go at writing two sentences and forming your letters neatly in your weekend recount. Keep it up Isaac!

FG: Jarrod L -

For demonstrating creativity and patience when creating your Guided Inquiry 'seasons tree'. You took the time to carefully tear up scrunching paper to add detail to your work. It was clear that you took a lot of pride in completing your work - I can't wait to put the trees on display! Keep up the great work Jarrod!

FH: Evan C -

For using creativity to show your magic number in three different ways. It was fantastic to see you have a go at using bundles of icy pole sticks to count by tens! Keep up the wonderful work Evan.

FJ: Owen Z -

For demonstrating a love of learning during our writing sessions. You have worked hard to form lowercase letters, sitting them on the baseline and using finger spacing between words. Keep up the amazing work Owen!
