Curriculum

It’s hard to believe that there is only one week left in what was a very different Term 2!

In Numeracy we have been learning about clocks and telling the time as well as looking at calendars, months, days of the week and seasons. We have also been exploring fractions including half, quarters and thirds by folding paper and looking at shapes. Following the completion of our unit on addition and subtraction, students completed a post-test to show what they had learnt.

In Writing, students continued writing poetry, with a focus on haikus poems which follow a 5, 7, 5 syllable structure. Students practised using their senses to brainstorm descriptive words to include in their poems. They also began creating a ‘Poetree’ ready to publish their writing next week. We will also be identifying goals for Term Three and reflecting on this term.

In Reading, students have worked on their summarising skills by identifying the main characters, the setting, the problem and the solution. They have also practised identifying the difference between common nouns and proper nouns by changing a common noun into a proper noun, e.g. dog is a common noun, Border Collie is a proper noun.

Students also explored their character strengths in Wellbeing lessons by identifying their top strengths and drawing them on a set of glasses. We also discussed what it means to be a good friend and why friendships are important.

On Wednesday last week the 1/2 teachers had a very productive day planning for next term. We enjoyed using the students’ voice and ideas to help with our planning!

Kind Regards,

Emma Honan, Aidan O’Connor, Emma Marsh, Kathy Wang, Andy Parthenopoulos, Emily Kiefte, Simone Rock and Erin Bennetts.
