Captains’ Report

Hi everyone, long time no see!  First, we’d love to check in with everyone.  How are you going with remote learning? Are you okay?

It’s been a long term without seeing each other, and we would love to commend everybody’s efforts; our teachers, fellow students, family and friends for making this remote learning work as best as possible!

We would especially like to commend all of our essential workers, those on the front line, including students who are working in essential businesses. Thank you.

After a long time in isolation, we will all soon be able to see each other once more, walk the halls of our schools, open our lockers, say “hi” to our teachers and plan or attend school events like normal.  These were all things we had once taken for granted, but now, more than ever, we see the true value and importance of going to school and being connected. We just want to again remind everyone to reach out to those around you and share how you're feeling. Being so far from everyday life isn’t easy for anyone and it’s okay to feel a bit stressed and anxious. The important thing is that you talk to someone about it. Your teachers and peers are all here to help and you can always reach out to the four of us if you wanna have a chat.

In an amazing effort to try to stay as connected as ever, we have continued to hold the Year 12 Breakfast Club over Google Meets every Friday morning before Home Group.

Ethan has been creating and sourcing kahoots to keep us entertained and excited for the end of another week. Everyone that has joined has most definitely had a fun time as we enjoyed everything from General Knowledge to Star Wars as well as an ANZAC Edition Kahoot for ANZAC weekend. It has been so special to be able to have that community time each week that we’ve missed so much not being at school, to have a chat, and to see what our peers have been up to throughout the week.

Likewise, Funky Sock Friday has been ongoing because, well why wouldn’t it? (Although for some, everyday in iso is funky sock Friday!). If we’re in iso, might as well have some funky times and wearing some fun and colourful socks is a sure way to brighten up your day. We plan to continue this as we return to school, contributing our gold coin donations each week to Wildlife Victoria’s Bushfire Appeal.

Just when we were in the thick of the iso situation and everything was getting a bit overwhelming here in Year 12, the Year 12 Coordinators and Ms Powson decided to send us out some cute Care Packages! Inside the package was a motivational note, some sweet treats, hot chocolate and a pair of funky socks. Getting to open this package at home was honestly one of the most heart warming things we’ve seen throughout this time, as it was just some reassurance that everything will be okay and we’re all in this together. We even had the privilege of making it onto the big screen and sharing our excitement of opening our Care Packages on the national TV program; The Project. This was an incredible experience and we hope our peers enjoyed seeing some familiar faces on their TV screens.

We know that for many of our peers, this time has not been easy in the slightest, while others seem to have really enjoyed the experience. It’s been nice to take some time out for ourselves, work on some of the things we normally might not have been able to, due to the workload of Year 12 and best of all.... wear our trackies or even pj’s to school, as well as waking up five minutes before class starts!  Although this will all change as we return to school on Tuesday 26 May, our Year 12 cohort is very excited to finally wear our Year 12 jumpers!

While SAC’s were put on hold throughout remote learning, we will slowly get back into studying and preparing for these assessments. Fear not, our amazing teachers are here to support us and understand these strange times, and will not overwhelm us with a workload that is incompletable or too stressful.

We know that none of us expected to be spending quality time of our last year of school online and in iso, or that our final year would be extended. For many of us finding the motivation to complete school work has been really difficult, so being back in the classroom will be beneficial and help us to return to some form of routine. Many of us have missed our friends, peers and teachers and are very excited to be back in the classroom, and learning how to socialise after close to two months of online learning, face-to-face calls, Netflix and lots of sleep-ins.

While we’ve all been through a lot throughout this journey, the end is seemingly so close, and there looks to be a light at the end of the tunnel. Even though it will more or less be Winter by the time we all get back, we hope the sight of each other is able to warm our hearts. Though the rain may fall, though the trees may be bare, though the skies may be grey, we are class of 2020 and nothing will break us down.

We want to take this time to thank all of the teachers and staff at LHS for their incredible support, long hours preparing lessons, slides, screencasts and everything in between.  All the extensive hard work they have all put in to ensure we can learn to the best of our abilities. We are one and together we will thrive, no matter what is thrown at us.

Herald Sun Entry

At the end of Term 1, prior to the COVID-19 restrictions and lockdown, our School Captains, Lily Black and Derek Villaceran featured in the Local Paper. They were asked to write a response describing the difference they can make to the world and what they might have to offer. Their beautiful response is below. Well done Lily and Derek!

Our School and Year 12 Captains on The Project

Lily Black, Ethan Carroll and Caitlin Huddleston all made a lovely appearance on Channel 10’s The Project, where they opened their Year 12 Care Packages and shared some inspiring words to all Year 12 students during this difficult time.

Year 12 Business Management

Operating Systems

Year 12 Business Management students are currently learning about the operations system. As part of their studies into the key elements   on Monday 18 May, they made chocolate balls at home to understand the concepts.

Inputs are the resources required to make a valued product, processes are the transformations that are made to the inputs and outputs are the valued good or service that is produced.

The students goods will make all families appreciate their skills in the kitchen.
