From the Assistant Principals

Welcome back to our VCE students. We are so proud of the way our community has united to do the very best to keep engaged with learning over this challenging time. It was wonderful to see Year 11 and 12 students clapped by staff into the school on the day of our return.

Reporting

Reporting on student progress has, in some cases, been more difficult in the remote learning environment and, in most cases, taken much more time for assessments to be conducted, completed and for feedback to be provided.

Students completing Unit 1 and 3 at VCE will not have their unit result confirmed until part way through term 3 as a result.

Please find below important revised dates to note for this semester. If you do not have access to Xuno or have lost your password please contact the General Office.

Course Counselling 2021

Presentations to Year 9s and 10s will begin in the coming weeks about the course counselling process and the Senior School Handbook will soon be available to students to begin investigating subjects for next year.

In the first week back of term 3 information sessions will run for Years 9 and 10 and a parent information session will be held on Wednesday 22nd July. We look forward to working with all our families to help students develop a plan for the remainder of their schooling.

Uniforms

As students return from remote learning, it is important that all students wear the correct uniform with pride. Now is a good time to check your child hasn’t suddenly outgrown their uniform.

Students are to be in full school uniform before they arrive at school. This will ensure that our college is represented with distinction whilst students are travelling to and from school.

As we head into winter, please be reminded that jumpers must be the Glen Eira College design only. Hoodies or jumpers of any other style will be confiscated by staff.  If students require an additional layer for warmth, a plain white t-shirt is permissible. Any plain white t-shirt (ie. no logos or designs) must be worn as an undershirt only and must not show below the sleeve or below the hemline.

Similarly, tights that are opaque black in colour (60 – 80 denier) may be worn but only with the skirt. Please be reminded that all dresses and skirts should be of an appropriate length - not shorter than 5cm above the knee. The college skirt may be worn with either tights or black socks but not both.

Nails must be of a reasonable length to participate in the curriculum safely. Students who choose to have fake nails can only do so if they are short and of neutral colour. Long nails are a safety issue and will be addressed by year level coordinators. Makeup and coloured nail polish are not part of the uniform and must not be worn. Natural coloured foundation with SPF is the only permissible makeup.

Socks must be plain black with no logos and must cover the ankles.

Students should not wear jewellery to school other than a watch and a max of 2 pairs of studs or sleepers in the ears only.

Enrolling into Year 7 2021

The Department of Education and Training (DET) sets the guidelines and process for enrolling a student in a Government school at Year 7. The process varies depending on the school the student attends in Year 6 (Government or Catholic/Independent). Parents and Carers can access the information pack, which includes forms at:

https://www.education.vic.gov.au/parents/going-to-school/Pages/year-6-to-7.aspx

The process to transition from Year 6 to 2021 Year 7 has been modified due to remote and flexible learning arrangements now in place.

https://www.education.vic.gov.au/parents/going-to-school/Pages/year-6-to-7.aspx

Complete the Application for Year 7 Placement 2021. This will be distributed by your primary school.

List Glen Eira College as your first school preference (Section 4B).

Return the form to your child’s primary school by Friday 29 May.

2.       For students currently attending a non-Government primary school (Catholic or Independent)

https://www.education.vic.gov.au/parents/going-to-school/Pages/year-6-to-7.aspx

Complete the Application for Year 7 Placement 2021 form included in the transition pack/on website.

Placement offers for all students
