From the Principal

We were absolutely delighted to welcome our VCE students back to school on Tuesday.  Our staff were excited and gathered outside and inside to clap the students into the building.  We cannot wait for our Year 7 – 10 students to be back to school on 9th June.

I must reiterate what I said in the last newsletter - congratulations to all members of our community for the way you have managed remote learning this term – learning in a way we have not experienced before.  It is a huge learning curve for everyone and your positive approach has made these challenging times easier.

The transition from remote learning to face to face teaching is just as challenging as it was moving from on-site learning to remote learning.  As a result until all Year Levels return, remote learning may look different. It is not always practical for teachers to be running as many google meets classes as they were up until now. Many teachers are running face to face teaching as well as remote classes. A more common approach will be teachers making work available on google classroom and teachers will be ready during timetabled classes to answer questions.

Catch-up Friday for Years 7 - 10

Friday 5th June will be Catch-up Friday for Year 7-10. Timetabled classes from 7-10 will not run on this day. If students have work due to be submitted on this day the teacher will be available to receive the submissions where applicable. We are encouraging students to use this time to complete any outstanding work and when possible get off their screens and be active.

Early this week we will send updated advice in preparation for Year 7-10 students returning to school.

Some reminders

Students are requested to bring to school each day:

  • A small hand sanitiser for personal use at lockers and in bathrooms
  • Their own clearly labelled large drink bottle with water only.  Students are not permitted to use the drinking fountains at school.

Students are not to engage in contact activities or activities where contact is likely such as basketball, soccer and AFL.

Students are to bring their own headphones to school. We will not be able to loan students headphones as they are difficult to clean.

GEC Social Media

We are delighted to have launched Instagram and Facebook accounts to celebrate our school community. Thank you to Ry Mathieson and Aaron Petersen for all the work involved in this initiative.

Through this you will be able to access:

  • Special and upcoming events

Thank you for all that you are doing to support the learning of students – I know it will be a steep learning curve for you so please look after yourselves too.
