As students and their families transition back to being at school there will be a new set of challenges to manage, alongside the excitement many students are feeling about being back at school.

We have all been on steep learning curves adapting to the new way of learning and teaching. We now need to adapt to a new way of being at school with the increased need to be vigilant with hygiene and other measures designed to help keep us all safe.

Our Adolescent Health Nurse Christalia Formoso has put together a slide show on GOOD HYGIENE which is attached to this article.

Kids helpline has also updated the information available for young people around COVID 19 and returning to school and adapting to the “new normal”. It is an excellent resource and is based on questions young people have asked about returning to normal.

Our GEC Wellbeing Centre will continue to be open to support students. We are asking students to utilise the wellbeing@gec.vic.edu.au email to book appointments with wellbeing staff. In this way we will be better able to manage the use of the centre and allocate our support staff. Parents are also able to use this website to seek support for their child.

Re-establishing a routine for the return to school may be a challenge. Attached is a checklist students can use to plan out their return to school routine.

We encourage all students to make their wellbeing a priority. Good wellbeing supports good learning. As our Year 7 to 10 students prepare to return to school please encourage them to  seek support if there are concerns about school work or any other issues impacting wellbeing.
