From the Principal
Dear parents, families, carers and school community,
We have really appreciated spending time with you to review IEP goals and discuss the mid-year report. These meetings lasted for about ½ an hour each; we are only too happy to make more time if there is more to discuss. These can be scheduled next term.
I just want to quickly speak about the report. The school decided that it would not allocate a grade or level to your child in curriculum areas this semester. Due to the health crisis, we felt that it would not represent your child’s progress, or equitably represent the progress of other children.
Instead we have provided descriptions of what your teacher taught over the semester in those subjects. Next semester each child will be engaged in core subjects within the Vic Curriculum. Teachers will resume more formal and anecdotal assessment against the curriculum and report on that at the end of this year.
I would also like to discuss the reason we have gone from writing ILP goals across a number of curriculum areas to only focussing on three goals in an IEP.
The IEP ensures that your child and teacher have a strong focus in areas of learning that impact across each learning area. If you want to discuss this further, I would be only to happy to chat.
From everyone at Yarrabah, we wish you all a happy and safe holiday. Take care and try to follow the health advice being issued so we see healthy and happy children return back for school in Term three.
Kind Regards,
Matthew Harris
