NSW All Schools Athletics 2020
COVID-19 Update
At this stage NSW All Schools is planning to go ahead, however not on the advertised dates of Thursday, 24th September - Sunday, 27th September. We are currently looking at dates in October/November to be able to deliver this event safely with COVID-19 protocols in place, and under NSW Government restrictions and regulations. Entries will be opened once a new date has been locked in. Please understand this competition could be subject to changes based on the NSW Government Public Health Order. We appreciate your patience and understanding during these uncertain times and we will release further updates shortly.
CWWHSSA Preston Butcher Cup - Open Girls Touch Football
The Preston-Butcher Cup team were excited to take to the field in what has been an unprecedented year in Combined Wagga High Schools sport. We had a great line this year with the team ranging from our newest Year 7 recruit, Melanie Philpot through to our five senior players Amelia Fitzgerald, Zoe Jenkins, Morgan Joliffe, Annabel Roach and Maddie Stout. Considering our short preparation for the competition, we got off to a solid start defeating both Kooringal High School and Christian College in the round games. Captain, Saffron Robertson and fellow Wagga Viper representatives Charlotte Heine, Rio Weidemann and Claudia Wheatley provided some impressive attacking plays, setting up tries with their speed, vision and ability to break the oppositions defensive line. Ines Treharne, Abbey Hamblin, Tootsie Lamb, Lucy Bourne and young Melanie Philpot worked relentlessly in defence, forcing many errors and turnovers setting up impressive wins early in the competition. After finishing top of Pool B, we progressed through to a semi-final match against Mater Dei Catholic College. After a classy performance by the opposition, we were defeated 8-1. However, in true College spirit we fought hard until the final siren. In our final match of the competition against Wagga High School, we scored the first try but sadly were unable to hold our lead throughout the second half of the game. The final result 9-6.
On behalf of the girls, thank you to all the local high school sports coordinators, particularly Mrs Kym Kjaer, who have worked tirelessly during very difficult times to keep up with the ever-changing landscape, and for implementing a safe environment to play in. We missed our usual parental support team, but look forward to building on our experience and having spectators return for the 2021 competition. A special mention and thank you to all our wonderful parents for following the COVID restrictions put in place to keep our students and staff safe during these difficult times.
