Senior School Music

Music in lockdown

After experiencing a lengthy lockdown, we are extremely happy to see the students returning to school. A wonderful sight to see!

I thank all the students for their ongoing participating in online instrumental music lessons and choirs! Music is so very important and is very often the medium we rely on to relax us and deepen our thinking. It also has a positive impact on our well-being.

Unfortunately, we are not able to run any ensembles this year. We are not in despair but are very much looking forward to 2021, because music is an integral part of the tradition at Huntingtower. We are hopeful then that we can return to some form of normality and enjoy what we do best: make music and shine!

I also would like to highlight the tremendous work done by our instrumental staff. They ensured that students were able to continue with instrumental lessons and the feedback received has been very positive (students even practised more and better!).

New digital piano

We are the proud owners of a new digital piano, housed in the foyer of the PAC. This venue is often used for rehearsals (House Music, Senior Strings, Choir) and the piano will come to good use in years to come. The school has a rich musical tradition and as such we will need to look at renewing instruments over the years. Instruments are of excellent quality and will last a long time.

Virtual Orchestra

Thank you to the many students, staff and alumnae who played in our virtual orchestra project. The music from Gustav Holst’s Jupiter (The Planets) was chosen because it is a piece of hope and joy. We are now in the final editing stages. I would especially like to thank Mr Evan Pugh (Theatre Manager & Senior AV Technician) for the endless hours it has taken to finalise this project.
