From Chloe Chaung:

'Students in the primary and secondary schools took the unique opportunity to participate in the Tournament of Minds (also known as TOM). Our teams had a passion for learning and worked together to solve brain-riddling open-ended challenges and developed strong problem-solving skills and creative mindsets.

Upon receiving the main challenge, students were required to come up with a solution by delving into their choice of one of 4 disciplines: Social Sciences, the Arts, STEM or Language Literature.

2020 was an interesting year with many surprises, but in the spirit of Tournament of Minds, this only made the challenge more fun. The super challenge this year was ‘Quo Vadis?’, and our teams had to solve the mystery of an unusual object that was found by unexpected people.

Of course, not being able to meet with our teams physically during lunch time breaks or having all 7 teammates act out a solution inside a 3x3 metre square was different from the usual. However, each team had their own way of going about this as we all tried to utilise technology to conjure up something new.

My team decided to tackle Social Sciences and try out the power of green screen and animation; our final product turned out quite well. Along the journey, we made stronger bonds as our teamwork skills improved by working collaboratively. We faced obstacles together with open minds.

What was our team’s unknown discovery, you may ask? Well, who would have thought that once lost relics unexpectedly put together would surprisingly result in reuniting the world in serenity under future leaders of the seven continents?

Tournament of Minds (with a twist!) was an amazing experience and brought about many great experiences which I hope I will always remember.'
