Busselton Playdate is Back!

Term Dates 2021

Term 1: Monday 1 Feb - Thursday 1 Apr

Term 2: Tuesday 20 April - Friday 25 Jun

Term 3: Tuesday 13 Jul - Friday 24 Sept

Term 4: Tuesday 12 Oct - Thursday 9 Dec

One of the consequences of COVID, is that changes have been made regarding staff development options in 2021 - most specifically, the requirement for our staff to attend the National CCM conference in July of next year.  We had previously advised that our holiday period in the middle of the year would be adjusted to make this possible, but with this situation now changed, school will resume two days earlier in Term 3 than previously stated.

Please note the above and mark your diaries accordingly.

Christmas in the Bush Update

We regret to advise that this year, the Dunsborough Christmas in the Bush event will not be happening.

We hope to have it back up again in 2021.

Kindy Final Day 2020

Parents of Kindy students are advised that our final day of school this year is Wednesday 9th December 2020.  We had previously advised it was the same day as the broader student population (Thursday 10th) but this was not correct.

Please mark your diaries.

IT Advanced Notification

We wish to remind parents that all current Year 7 laptops and the Year 8 and Year 9 iPads will be collected in the last few weeks of school. They will remain in the College over the holidays for inspection and upgrade.

The current Year 9s are also required to return their chargers and cables.

Thanks in anticipation.

Parent Connect Thank-you

Mrs Blennerhassett has asked for this information to be relayed to our Busselton community.

'A huge thank you to all who helped with the curry night at Learning Journey.  From those who donated equipment, curry and also those who purchased curry! Thank you also to the high school students and staff who coordinated the very well received sausage sizzle.  We appreciate you all. Decisions around spending are being made, and the hope is that high schoolers will benefit soon from new recreation equipment to enjoy at break times!'

From the College's point of view, we also want to send a HUGE thank you to Mrs Blennerhassett for her amazing coordination of the event.  We are so blessed to have her in our community!

Christmas in a Shoebox

Each year, our College participates in the Samaritan's Purse 'Operation Christmas Child' project.  This initiative provides gifts for children in third world nations, who would otherwise not experience the joy of receiving a Christmas gift.

With COVID-19 unsettling the world like never before, the opportunity for us to step into the world of underprivileged children is even more meaningful.  You can find a link to the project here:

https://samaritanspurse.org.au/what-we-do/operation-christmas-child/

Parents wanting to contribute to Christmas Child Shoe Box Appeal are invited to send along their labelled boxes along with $10 to cover the cost of postage. Boxes cannot be accepted without the postage.

Busselton Campus:

Students can hand in their boxes at Primary COGGS at 2:15pm on Tuesday, 20 October.

Dunsborough campus:

Students can hand in their boxes at Kindy/PP assembly at 9am.

The last date to hand in your box at the office is Wednesday, 21 October.

No late collections will be accepted after this date.

Sponsor - Thank you!

This year has seen unprecedented impacts upon jobs and communities, and as a consequence, many of our usual award sponsors have had to put their support temporarily on hold. Whilst that has been the case for many businesses, there are others who have been blessed to be able to continue their support of our students with prizes to acknowledge many areas of excellence.

We'd like to acknowledge the following donors, for their continued involvement in 2020.

They are:

Busselton Lions Club

South West Machining Centre

City of Busselton

Libby Mettam MLA

Geographe Bay Rotary Club

Adele Farina MLC

Nola Marino MP

Workwear Clothing Online

ZONTA

Cornerstone Church of Christ

Caltex

Edith Cowan University

Central University of Queensland

We really appreciate their partnership, and ask that you support those who support us.

Positive Behaviours

We are in the process of developing a system for identifying and reinforcing expected positive behaviours at Cornerstone. Rather than approaching behaviour from a negative view we are developing a whole school approach that intentionally rewards positive behaviour. Although we will still have a management system for negative behaviour, this proposed system will have an emphasis on developing character and upholding school values by acknowledging positive behaviour.

The matrix has been loosely based on the Positive Behaviour Interventions and Support (PBIS) used in some government and independent schools. It explicitly defines how we expect students to behave. This means everyone in our school community will have the same expectations.

The writing in blue are the six Learning Assets proposed by author and educator Kath Murdoch that are currently being used in our Primary school. Although these are not physical behaviours they are traits we want to keep at the forefront of our teaching as we prepare students for the workforce. The words in green are values we are already acknowledging and reinforcing through our Primary merit awards.

We would love some feedback from parents. Please let Judy Nolan or Garry Maynard know your thoughts on this approach and the matrix we have proposed.
