Dear Parents and Students,

The school year is rapidly coming to an end as we farewell our year 12’s.

The festivities this week have certainly highlighted this groups creativity and inclusiveness as a group. There has been some themed dress up days and other entertaining activities to celebrate the end of their secondary schooling. We are certainly looking forward to the Class of 2020 running their own virtual assembly on Monday 2nd November.

The Year 12’s of 2020 have left their mark on the school in so many positive ways. They have been instrumental in further developing what it means to be successful and passionate science students and they have taken the foundations built by previous groups to further establish culture that makes JMSS a wonderful place to work and study. They have certainly negotiated alI the bumps and potholes 2020 has thrown at them and have learnt strategies that will serve them well in life beyond school.

On behalf of all the staff at JMSS we would like to wish this group all the best as they finish their secondary schooling and negotiate the exam period with great confidence and optimism.

Year 12 SWOT VAC

From Tuesday 3rd November, Year 12 students have no scheduled classes and time where they can study for their exams. Generally this study is best done at home or another place where purposeful revision can be achieved. If students wish to see teachers during this time they do need to book in ahead of time so that teachers and students time can be used to its greatest advantage. Uniform should be worn if coming in to see teachers. We are hopeful that the Andrew-Hargrave and Matheson libraries at Monash may reopen soon.

Exams

Over 420 of our students are completing a VCE Unit 3 and 4 exam of some sort in the November/ December exam period. Each student completing a VCAA exam will have been given an individual timetable and a navigator booklet that describes the exam conditions and the materials allowed. The exam timetable will also have listed the venue for the exam.

This year many students may have multiple exam venues ranging from the campus centre to different spaces at JMSS. We are requesting that all students completing a VCAA Unit 3 and 4 exam at JMSS turn up to JMSS at least 1 hour prior to the exam starting so that we know they are here.  We do need to ensure that students arrive with plenty of time to spare so we can walk them to each exam venue.

If a student is running late they need to ring the General office on 99051002

A timetable for the year 10 and 11 exams will be published shortly.

Use of Monash University Facilities

Over the last 3 weeks we have been lucky to be able to access a range of facilities at Monash University to socially distance our students and teachers. This includes the Pop Up Village, Monash Sport and some Lecture Theatres. We are most grateful to Monash University for making these facilities available.

Student Achievements

At recent assemblies the remarkable range of student achievements in a range of competitions has been recognised. There have been numerous exemplary performances Maths, IT and Science. All students receiving these prestigious awards will be recognised in the next newsletter and 2020 School magazine.
