Sally Cheah - Johnson

Assistant Principal

Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome back to Term 4!

It is great to see all our  students back onsite.

It has been a most unusual and challenging year.  However, on all counts, we have prevailed and will continue to prevail as we stand as a united and determined community.  For us at JMSS, we have gone against the odds in the last two terms. We have done so through the hard work and commitment of all in our school community.

I would like to acknowledge the leadership, commitment and dedication of our teachers and non-teaching staff.  Throughout the pandemic lockdown restrictions, our staff have put in their very best to ensure that the learning of our students is not compromised. On this note, I want to take this opportunity to thank all my colleagues.

I also would like to thank our parent community.  I am very grateful for the many messages of encouragement and support to our staff. Your messages have certainly further motivate us.

I also want to acknowledge the work of the students.  So many of you have contributed to upholding the spirit of the school community, through the many activities that you have initiated and conducted.  I would especially like to thank the Student Parliament.  The leadership of this Parliament has ensured that our traditional events such as Harmony Day was not lost but conducted in a different way – and we had an amazing Harmony Day concert. The Student Parliament continues with the many club activities (even though they were conducted virtually) such as in sports, music, sustainability and the arts.

The Student Parliament continue to uphold its goal to support the Bushfire victims and in spite of the challenges of the pandemic restrictions, continued with the fundraising activities.  The Parliament also introduced a new student awards system – the CARES Awards that acknowledge students’ contribution and good citizenship. Through the pandemic times, communication from the Parliament to the student body has also improved greatly because of the newly developed online JMSS Noticeboard.

To the members of the Student Parliament, thank you for all your work.

Our JMSS Student Parliament is led by our Captains: Emmylou Reeve, Jackson MCAloon, Charlotte Gilley and Zach Elimelich.  As a team they have successfully steered the Student Parliament. Their capacity to unite, and combine the talents of others to build on a common goal is a mark of their leadership.

Thank you to Emmylou, Charlotte, Jackson and Zach.

The Student Leadership for 2021:

School Captains are selected and appointed by a Selection Panel.  It was a rigorous process where written applications were submitted and the shortlisted applicants were interviewed.  We had a large number of applicants for the 2021 School Captaincy positions, and they are all of a high calibre.

I would like to acknowledge all the applicants for their courage and willingness to stand for leadership positions. For those who are not appointed, I hope you will continue to contribute and lead. There will be many opportunities.
