August Book Review:Year of Wonders by Geraldine Brooks

Geraldine Brooks is an author known for her historical fiction. The library book club recently had ‘Year of Wonders’ as their set text to discuss. Set in the 1660’s this book takes place during an outbreak of plague when a small English town decides to go into isolation from the rest of the county. Although confronting at times this book tackles themes that are especially relevant during the year we have all been tackling together. The book brings to mind some of the modern technologies and resources we have at our disposal during these difficult months as well as some of the very human responses to such an outbreak. Although this title can be a confronting read during these times as it tackles themes of health outbreaks and isolation it may also allow the reader to see a perspective on these issues placed outside of our time, above all take care and read this book when feeling up to encountering these topics.  We have multiple physical copies of this title in the library and also multiple eBook copies, please find a link to eBook: link here

The eBook can be found through our Overdrive eBook resources by clicking on this icon on our portal and searching for ‘Year of Wonders’

Wishing Year 10s a great first week back and lovely to see you all around the school again.

Take Care All

Ms. Veldsman
