Biology
Unit 4 Biology students participated in a live lab this week. During their ‘virtual excursion' to Swinburne, Wantirna, they investigated the digestion of a plasmid from a restriction enzyme and observed the results of a gel electrophoresis lab.
This is what some students learnt from the workshop:
Nisha: “I learnt the different types of bacterial growth and how GFP needs the arabinose promoter.”
Angel: “I learnt that the test tubes are kept on ice because the difference in temperature shocks bacteria into opening up and taking up plasmids which is how they become transformed.”
Erin: “I learnt how to use the micro pipette”

Food Studies
Year 9 Food Studies students have been learning about a variety of cuisines from around the world this term. They have been able to cook these meals for their families and extend their knowledge and skills.
I think the families have been thrilled to have some of the dishes as they often don’t make it home!

Supported remote learning
Throughout remote learning education programs have continued in all forms. Bianca (Year 10) regularly meets with Education Support Aide, Cathy Grieves, for additional assistance with her study program. Here they are in class together.
