Jemima Montag Live Chat

How lucky the MSGC community were to hear from Jemima Montag on Tuesday 8 September. Jemima is an elite athlete, passionate speaker and university student. She was the Gold medallist at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in the Women’s 20km race walk and has just been announced in the Australian Olympic team for next year.

Jemima shared her journey with some anecdotal stories relating to key themes like developing resilience and embracing challenges. Her advice to our students (and staff) in attendance was to question yourself: “Are they an opportunity or are they a threat?” in relation to embracing challenges. Jemima highlighted the challenges we are all facing at the moment and asked us to see them as an opportunity and focus on the things you can control. Jemima shared a tool box of things to assist you in doing this which included:

  • Create a support network
  • Focus on things that you can control
  • Have a happy medium between things you enjoy and like and your school work
  • Engage in self care rituals.
  • Perseverance by responding, adapting and reshaping your goals.

What a privilege it was to have such an opportunity and to feel inspired by a young athlete. We wish Jemima all the best in her race to the Olympics and hope that the MGSC community enjoyed the experience and could implement some of the key points that was shared to us.
