Darwinia House
I was looking back at last year’s Term 3 newsletter and I was referring to City Week adventures with Year 9s, and how we were well prepared for the Chorales competition at the end of this term.
It is such a shame that so many of these experiences are not being done this year due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
However, we still have many positive experiences to report. Our senior students have had guest speakers from Deakin University attend their Learning Tutor classes remotely and have presented information on University pathways and how to apply for the Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS) as well as scholarships.
The Year 12 VCE students are, of course, in the last few weeks before their course work is completed, and then they head into revision early Term 4. Most of our Year 12 students have continued to be engaged in their learning and completing tasks for the satisfactory completion of their VCE.
The Year 10 students have just completed interviews, many with their parents, a member of the careers team and a member of the House Leadership team, making decisions about their pathways either into VCE or VCAL for 2021.
Year 8 and 9 students have attended a Subject Expo, again all remotely, as they select elective subjects for 2021 – an exciting time for all.
Students from all year levels are to be commended on their resilience during this very challenging time. We have such a high percentage of students who are in every class and making a contribution to their learning.
Parents – you too are to be congratulated on supporting your child’s education and engagement as well. A very difficult time for all.
I hope that when I write the Term 4 newsletter, we have been back, face-to-face, with our students and reconnecting on both a social and academic level.
Take care.
