RSC Staff Dance Through the Decades

This week the staff and teachers combatted the Week 8/Remote learning slump by busting a move.

As part of our #Fridayfavouritedecade theme, we’ve reinvigorated ourselves by trying to dance through the decades!

Click the ClickView link below to see some of your teachers ‘shake a tail feather’ and see if you can pick which teacher is which.

Then, try to copy some of the main dances from your favourite decade - do you think we missed an important dance? Let Miss Borlase know! Better yet, send in a short clip of you doing the dance and go into the draw to win a prize!

Rituals as resets

This week I thought I would share with you some reflections from another one of my favourite authors and researchers, Angela Duckworth.

Duckworth’s advice in this strange and challenging time is to repeat rituals, even when they aren’t strictly necessary. Her key points include that going “back to school” in the midst of a pandemic is challenging for many reasons, among them the absence of cues that shake us out of our stupor.

Rituals help people to prepare, and not just physically. As we say goodbye to winter, spring brings an increase in temperature and humidity, signaling new growth, change and is a time to shift gears mentally.

Duckworth, states that human beings are built for fresh starts.

  • Don’t underestimate the power of physical cues to influence motivation and behavior. Take advantage of these cues to set goals, disrupt bad habits and move forward with optimism and energy.
  • Do help your kids make a fresh start. Years from now, they may look back and remember that going back to school in 2020 was surreal by nature and, at the same time, familiar by design.

Reflect on your daily rituals, they may be small but beautiful concepts. Think about the disruption and how these changes can create fresh rituals. Enjoy the weekend!
