Inquiry Centre

Curriculum

This term is quickly coming to an end! What an interesting term it has been. Now is the time for us to reflect on what we have achieved this term. It has been another tricky term but we have seen some outstanding work from students across the Inquiry Centre. Thank you Inquiry Centre students and families! You have been brilliant.

In Literacy, last week we wrote letters to our favourite characters, completed a cold write together live on Google Meet, and investigated good questions to ask before, during and after reading or viewing. Hopefully we can all keep practising asking questions before, during and after as it is a key habit for good readers. Even better if we can think of some tricky ‘Red Light’ questions that make you stop and think a little deeper like ‘I wonder why…’ and ‘Why would…’. This week we will start with some energy by defending good writing with some ‘Kung Fu Punctuation’ as we reflect on our achievements this term before we start thinking forward to Term 4.

In Maths, last week we continued to work on worded problems while exploring multiplication and division. This focus was on connecting division to repeated subtraction in the same way we connected repeated addition and multiplication. This week we will practise recording number sentences vertically by starting simple and connecting with our place value knowledge, then play with some function machines and finish off with some probability language. I wonder if this will be a good week….certainly!

In Guided Inquiry, this week we will be looking to the future. Students in the Inquiry Centre will reflect on what they have learned over this term's guided inquiry unit, then think about what life might be like in the future for their generation. What might life be like?

This week the teachers will be working together to plan Term 4 and all that it might bring. We are keeping a smile on our dials and working with the joyous hope we will be working together onsite soon but planning to be as adaptable as possible to ensure we can do our best for your children in Term 4. This weeks guided reading will look different, along with our Friyay Funday check in this week where we will put on some short fun activities to send off the term in good spirits.
