Selamat siang!

It was yet another busy but successful week in the Leadership Centre! And just like that, we are in the final week of Term 3. We would like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude to all families. Your continued support and hard work is greatly appreciated. Students have continued to display many character strengths such as perseverance, creativity, curiosity and ‘love of learning’ (just to name a few!) throughout the term. We remind families that wellbeing continues to be a strong focus and we understand that not every day is great and that some days can be challenging - if something is not completed, it is okay!

In Literacy, students have been hard at work engaging in the Writing Process to complete their very own picture story book! Last week, students planned the plot of their story using the Narrative Story Graph and identified important elements of VCOP they intend to use. This includes specific literary devices, such as similes, metaphors, personification and hyperbole, to use within their story to further engage the reader. After the planning process was completed, students created their first draft and engaged in writing digital writing conferences to communicate valuable feedback. Students utilised the commenting feature on Google apps to communicate and collaborate. 5/6 students now continue to create their final product and will connect with the Junior School through sharing a read aloud of their stories. We are looking forward to seeing the reactions of the Foundation and Year 1/2 students next week!

On Friday, students completed their Term 3 Reflection which have been uploaded to Seesaw ready for teacher feedback and approval. The end of term reflection allows students to think back on what they have achieved throughout the course of the term and to see what their next steps may be, moving forward. We recommend viewing your child’s Term 3 Reflection with them and discussing what they identified as their highlights in Remote Learning.

In Maths, students continue to focus on the concept of division, more specifically on using estimation and rounding to assist with calculations, converting remainders into decimal form and dividing fractions using visual representations and reciprocal fractions. Students have been placed into appropriate maths groups where they are working to their point of need. It has been wonderful to see students join daily Mathematics Zooms where they can participate in 'Teacher Focus' time with explicit instruction, ask clarifying questions and communicate ideas and feedback.

On Thursday the 10th of September it was R U OK? Day. It is a national day of action when Australians are reminded that every day is a good day to ask “Are you OK?” if someone is feeling the effects of life’s ups and downs. Even just asking this simple question can increase someone’s positivity! Students explored what to say, after “Are you OK?” and were given resources from the R U OK? website to identify some great phrases to say and shared their ideas on some strategies that can be implemented when checking in with a family member or friend. Some phrases to say after you’ve asked “Are you OK?” include: “What’s been happening?”, “I am here to listen”, “I am here when you are ready to chat”, “Is there someone you can talk to who you trust?”.

At the beginning of Term 4 a notice will be sent to families regarding the 'Moving Into The Teen Years' Program facilitated by Interrelate School Services (formerly Family Life Victoria). This very successful program has been delivered to students at this school in the past and has always been well-received and beneficial for the students. The program will be conducted online this year and will be held over three 90min sessions on Wednesday 14th October, Thursday 15th October and Friday 16th of October. This program is run every second year at MPRPS and has been designed to help schools implement particular aspects of the health curriculum including the physical, social and emotional changes at puberty.

The approach used is simple, straightforward and sensitive. The content of the sessions are age-specific and interactive, using a variety of audio-visual materials and discussion. The program respects and supports the role of the family in sexuality education.

Have a wonderful weekend and enjoy the upcoming school holidays!

Student Voice

  • Josiah (5/6W) -"I liked Book Club because it let us collaborate with our classmates. And even when you weren't doing Book Club, you were doing fun literacy rotations to help us learn new writing and reading skills. My book was The Midnight Zoo by Sonya Hartnett and I really enjoyed reading the book and all the interesting quotes that it had."
  • Claire (5/6W) - "I liked the Housing Estate Portfolio because it gave me a chance to challenge myself as well as use my strength of creativity. My favourite part was colouring my project. I am proud of the working out that I did."
  • Jia-Xuan (5/6W) - "A highlight this term was Science Week because Ms Reed joined us on Zoom and I liked finding out the disparity between zebra fish and human. Another thing I enjoyed about Science Week was looking at what the Year 1/2 students did!"

Reminders

  • Please check-in with your child throughout to ensure they are engaging in learning tasks and that they are using their devices appropriately.
  • Pre-recorded video of each day’s agenda plus each day's daily slides will be posted by 8:30am. It is important that students watch the agenda video so they have a sound understanding of the daily tasks.
  • If your child will be absent from learning or Zoom sessions, please notify your classroom teacher or the office as usual.
  • For daily fitness, students will select an activity from their choice board.
