IMPORTANT CYBER SAFETY ADVICE

Dear Parents,

As we are entering into school holidays and the possibility of remote learning, this is a good opportunity to remind everyone about our responsibility to be digitally aware citizens.

While there are many apps and programs that are fun, educational and help people to connect, there are just as many that are not suitable for students, which include Instagram, Facebook and TikTok

TikTok is an extremely popular app amongst children and teens. Originally known as 'Musical.ly', it is a platform for people to upload short lip syncing, dance and music clips for others to view. While TikTok videos are mostly harmless, there are real concerns about young people utilising the app. With over 100million users world wide, it is important that privacy settings are enabled. TikTok requires that users be at least 13 years old to use the app. Anyone under the age of 18 must have approval of a parent or guardian.

A useful way to discover age recommendations, is to search the name of the app in iTunes or Common Sense Media. They will have an age recommendation that will guide parents in their implementation of the program.

Thank you,
