Welcome to Term 2 – a term unlike any other in my long career!

At the end of last term, we said farewell to students rather suddenly when the Premier declared that the holidays started the day after we began our remote learning trial! Thank goodness we had one day to see if a few of our theories were feasible.

We are currently investigating ways that we may be able to lend books to students. Watch this space next week.

Please Note: Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is still being set up. I am in negotiations with them as to why I can’t access the new website.

Senior School Library – nearly finished:

We also took delivery of most of our new Senior School Library furniture – the final stage of the refurbishment that has been spread across the last 3 years. Ms Welst and I spent all of the last week working with Mr Dopheide and the other ground staff, Mr Bonnett and Mr Kennedy to get things fitted together and set up. We are still not finished – and will be using a few days of this early part of the term to ensure that all is functional as well as attractive.

Resources for these difficult times:

For parents: (click the underlined text to get to each web site below))

  • Younger family member activity:

Create a space (a do it at home learning activity from a highly qualified teacher-librarian):

A great set of offerings from ABC Splash that may be valuable at this point in time.

Suitable for preschool and primary aged children.

A subscription based educational website, created for children to view stories by local authors and illustrators, being read aloud by predominantly Australian and New Zealand storytellers. There are a handful of free stories and monthly subscription is only $4.99 per month for families.

This page, from the Department of Education and Training, provides advice, tips and resources to help parents and carers support their child’s continuity of learning from home.

For students:

Remember that we are here to help you locate the resources you need for your studies. You can access the catalogue from the SIMON home page, along with a range of other helpful websites and paid subscriptions. Further details will be shared as soon as we can set new offerings up.
