Year 10: workshop with spoken word poet Scottie Wings
by Kate Ellis and Dan Symons
Year 10 Language and Literature teachers
On Monday 29 July, Year 10 Language and Literature students were granted a double period with the wonderfully entertaining and talented spoken word poet, Scottie Wings.
Scottie has been heralded as a wildly physical performer whose poetry ranges in subject matter… from the political nature of ticking boxes on forms to love and summoning courage to be a superhero.
Students were treated to three live performance poems followed by a series of workshops to get their creative writing juices flowing. He helped them see the potential in their own stories, explored the question of audience and sensitive material as well as the glory of absurd and extended metaphors.
It is always a pleasure to have the likes of Scottie come to our School. His energy and talent (as well as relatability) is unquestionable.
