Assistant Principal's Report

Welcome Back

We would like to extend a warm welcome to all of our new Year 7 students, their families and other students who are new to the school this year. For those who are returning from last year, welcome back and we hope that you have another successful year at the college. As Ms Barker has mentioned in her report one key focus this year is to improve the attendance rate, we will be having focus groups that will look at some strategies to improve this.

2020 has seen a change within the Assistant principal team with the addition of a second AP. Both of us have very different portfolios which we will highlight in this first edition of the newsletter and will continue throughout the year in the newsletters. Please continue to read this AP report as we will both highlight the key areas that we will be focusing on.

Whist we have different portfolios students are always welcome to come and have a chat with either one of us to discuss any ideas, projects, issues or simply to chat.

Glenn Jenner and Rose Thomson

Assistant Principals

It is with great pleasure that I have joined the Greensborough College Community this year. My decision to become an Assistant Principal at our College has come from my determination to make a positive impact on an entire school community.

It was in the year of 1999 that I began my career as a teacher. I completed a Bachelor of Art Education and Master of Mathematics Education and have been continuously learning about how I can support students to achieve academic success throughout my career. What I ultimately strive for is engaging students in utilising technology, critical thinking skills and having a growth mindset in preparing for their future.

Some of my goals for the 2020 school year include:

To put a spotlight on inclusive education, where all students receive the support they need to belong to the school community, engage purposefully in learning and experience academic success

To provide meaningful information to students and parents and carers about individual achievement and learning growth

To strengthen our Curriculum Documentation, Assessment, Moderation and Feedback practices

To build on the data literacy capabilities of our staff to target differentiated classroom and school improvement strategies that maximise student learning and engagement.

As one of the Assistant Principal at Greensborough College I will be working on Positive climate for learning, which will consist of looking at student engagement and connectedness. I will also be looking at more student voice and agency.

My key improvement is to:

Build school pride and connectedness and embed a whole school approach to health, wellbeing, inclusion and engagement.

  • Sub school teams – Student Focus Groups to identify indicators of connectedness
  • Students to connect to their peers in cross curricula activities such as the School Production, State School Spectacular, International tours, camps and lunchtime clubs
  • Provide more opportunities for flipped learning/classroom by skilling up the students to initiate, create, develop, coordinate and run activities and events

I will also continue to work on the School wide positive behaviour which is a system approach to establishing the social, culture and individualized supports needed for all students to achieve both social and academic success.

This year we are also focussing on students building positive relationships with the school Engagement and Wellbeing teams, I have highlighted below who is currently working in these areas and I encourage students to see their relevant Year level leader for help, support and advice.

School Engagement & Wellbeing Leaders

Just a reminder that the two sub-schools are led by:

  • Junior School Engagement & Wellbeing Leader (Years 7 – 9) : Meegan Triance
  • Senior School Engagement & Wellbeing Leader (Years 10 – 12):  Paul Meager

Both of these people have a fantastic team working with them as Year level Leaders:

  • Junior school year level leaders:

Year 7 Nick Heading

Year 8 Callum Harber

Year 9 Anthony Ellul

  • Senior School Year level Leaders

Year 10 Sharyn Campbell

Year 11 Andrew Erickson

Year 12 Gus Mclean
