DROMANA COLLEGE DANCE IN SEMESTER 2

Workshops

Term 4 began with Workshops by Ru Atma, Graduate from College of the Arts, director  of Loco Motion and Raw Collective Dance Co.

Ru ran some fabulous choreographic workshops with our Year 10, VCE and Year 9 dance classes, which were both motivational and inspirational. We are very grateful to Ru giving so generously of her time.

We have some students who have continued working with Ru on a special dance project, a collaborative work to be performed at the end of the year at Cube 37.

State School Spectacular

We've also had many students who have been rehearsing all year with Ms Bieber for State School Spectacular. After two huge rehearsal days on the Thursday and Friday, their major performances were on Saturday 10th September. It truly was an amazing experience for our students performing at Hisense arena among thousands of other students around Victoria.

Wakakirri

We were very proud of our students, performances and behaviour both at State School Spectacular and (some of the same students) two days later at the Wakakirri state finals.

This year we introduced the Wakakirri dance story competition. Not only did our students do us very proud and have a fabulous experience competing at the regionals at Frankston Arts Centre on August 1st, they also outdid themselves getting into the state finals held at Hamer Hall on the 12th September. Dromana won;

  • Best Mental Health Story Award
  • Individual Set Piece Design Award
  • Solo Dance Award

Our story was entitled;

Madness in Wonderland

Alice journey’s through Wonderland, being confronted by depression, various forms of mental illness and strange experiences. Will she find a way out and light at the end of the tunnel?

“Stepping through the mirror and the dream sequence was very well done and Alice portrayed dark and negative thoughts very well” –

Mary-Louise Santa & Michael Cormick

Dance Club

Dance Club continued throughout winter in dark & cold Tuesday mornings.  Ms Johnson & Ms Cossey, warmed up the dance studio and have been teaching some fabulous dances of different styles throughout the year, which continued Thursday’s afterschool with Ms Sabell (once Wakakirri concluded). The Dance Club have had many performance experiences throughout the year, those included the annual Soiree Night in term 3 and the end of semester Dance Evening in October.

We look forward to continuing Dance Club in 2017.

Our year 9, 10 and 11 Dance students all performed also at the end of semester Dance Evening, featuring some dramatic solo’s by our unit 2 students. We are looking forward to the 2017 year 12 solo’s.

What else is in store for 2017 … School Musical “Wizard of Oz!”

An all time favourite musical, with lots of great music and dance numbers.

Rehearsals for production begin at the start of Term1. The show will be running at the Frankston Arts Centre, May 12th & 13th, 2017. It will feature many Dance Club students AND auditioned dancers. This will be an amazing, fun experience for all students involved, something they will never forget!
