 Hockey

The Hockey Association’s Annual Meeting was held on Monday.  Peter Musson was re-elected President and the Vice Presidents, Mark Templeton and Peter Meecham, are also unchanged.  We have a new Treasurer in Tim Dean and Heath Templeton has taken on the Umpire Coordinator role.  Kristen Waldron remains the Minute Secretary and David Merrin the Junior Liaison Officer.  Alison Read becomes the new Data Entry/Records Officer.  A small number of positions remain unfilled, chief among these the position of Secretary.  All clubs have been asked to explore whether they can find someone to fill this important role so if a hockey parent would be interested in helping ensure the competition and Association run smoothly and could take on this role could they please let me know so I can put them in touch with the President.

The College Cricket junior teams commenced their season this week with the U/14 and U/16s batting first in their fixture against Grampians.

The Phil Sanders and Rob Drummond coached Under 14 team made an imposing score of 170 at Myrniong to start the season. Henry Bensch’s 50 retired, along with Jack Austin’s 24 retired, contributing towards the total. For the visitors it was College students Ben Potter claiming 2-10 and Stirling Cumming claiming 4 wickets who did the damage for the Grampians.

On Tuesday night at Myrniong to commence the Under 16 season, the Stephen Mirtschin coached team were sent in to bat with numbers affected by the Year 9 camp. Ben McCure and Dougal Doery opened the innings and got the innings off to a positive start before Riley Alexander (50 retired) and Jock Keiller (53 retired) steadied the ship in the middle overs. Tyler Hateley did what he does best, and scored freely to contribute 34 runs not out to the total, as the College team posted 4/203 after their 48 overs.

The Under 12 season kicks off next Wednesday with the College Cricket Club entering 4 teams into the HDJCA competition.

Plenty of College Students have started the season in their home clubs’ first teams: Ben McCure and Riley Alexander (College Cricket Club), Charlie Summers (Macarthur Cricket Club), Lachie Craig (Pigeon Ponds Cricket Club) and Max Green (Port Fairy Cricket Club).

This programme is a rebranding of the Milo In 2 Cricket competition which has been running for a number of years. College’s programme started on THURSDAY 18TH OCTOBER. More information can be found on the flyer attached. If you would like to know any further information please get in contact with Mr Mirtschin.

A special congratulations to Riley Alexander who has made the region’s U/16 Western Waves team.  He has put in a lot of hard work over the off season and thoroughly deserves his selection.
