Prep to Year 3 Reggio Inspiration
In 2019, the Junior School will look to further embrace the Reggio Emilia approach by inspiring aspects of our Prep to Year Three curriculum. Our Early Learning Centre, under the guidance of Director Mrs Frances O’Brien, promotes participation and constructive co-existence based on listening, openness and recognition of others. Many projects are initiated in order to bring adults and children together. Reggio educators view education as a relationship among three protagonists: child, teacher and parent. Exchange and dialogue are valued between children, teachers and parents. Next year, we will look to build on this philosophy in our Prep to Year Three classrooms. Watch this space!
“There is an inner voice that pushes children on, but this force is greatly multiplied when they are convinced that facts and ideas are resources, just as their friends and the adults in their lives are precious resources. It is especially at this point that children expect – as they have from the beginning of their life adventure – the help and truthfulness of grownups”.

Uniform and Hair
The new mid length socks have been welcomed with great enthusiasm by Junior School students. The standard of uniform across all year levels has been excellent in the first two weeks of term. The students are taking great pride in their appearance. This should also extend to hair. Boys and girls are expected to wear their hair in a tidy fashion; in line with our school policies on appearance. The College is proud of its traditions and our pride in appearance sets us apart from other schools in the district. I would ask all Junior School parents to support this.
Growth Coaching
Last Thursday and Friday, I had the pleasure of attending a ‘Growth Coaching’ professional learning opportunity. Along with seven others from College, we joined 15 teachers from around the district in learning about the power of professional coaching. There were a lot of great takeaways from the sessions, as well as a number of thought-provoking quotes;
‘We live in a world our questions create.’
‘Habits can be the best of servants or the worst of masters.’
‘People value honesty more than any other leadership trait.’
Congratulations to Zoe Addinsall & Chloe Headlam for their fabulous achievements at the Regional Athletics finals which were held in Ballarat last Friday. Zoe came 1st in 1500m and 3rd in 800m, qualifiying her to compete at the State Finals in Melbourne later this month. Chloe came 3rd in the Long Jump. Well done girls.
