Technology Report

Look what we have been learning in Technology...

Our Foundation students started their design unit during the second half of this term. The Preps have put together a veggie garden with their classroom teachers for their Sustainability unit. We thought it would be a great idea to design a scarecrow for our garden, because we don't want the birds eating all our veggies! We started with sketching our scarecrow designs and then began sewing our patches that were then stuck on our two scarecrows. We can't wait to see them in our garden!

Our Level 1-2 students have finished up their design unit for this term. Students have been learning about how we can be more sustainable and help our environment. We have been learning about the different bins we use, and in particular the compost bin. We explored what happens inside a compost bin and how it helps our environment to be more sustainable. Students then put their engineer hats on, began designing their own compost bins and then worked collaboratively in groups to put their designs together to build their prototype. We have seen such amazing compost bin prototypes!

Our Year 3-4 students have been undertaking Food Technology in the kitchen this term. There has been a big focus around The Australian Guide to Healthy Eating. Students have been learning about the importance of eating a range of foods and how they fuel our bodies and help us grow. We have had so much fun cooking in the kitchen, learning about which food groups the ingredients we are cooking with belong to and using a range of different tools and techniques each week.

Our Year 5-6s have been using different robotics resources, such as the EV3 Lego Mindstorms and online Google apps to gather, display and interpret data. We have been learning how to use the sensors on the devices too, which has allowed us to begin to understand ‘reflective light’ This will assist us to code the robots and use them to compete in coding challenges! We have also been working on Cyber Safety and how that impacts us in our day to day lives. Please be sure to ask your child/ren what they know about being safe online!
