From our Principal

Dear Parents, Students and Friends,

It has been wonderful visiting  Year 7 Religion classes over the course of the past week. One question I ask each class is to nominate one thing they like best about St Peter’s so far. The response is as varied as it is enthusiastic. Some of the responses have included: the variety of subjects, the way older students have helped me whenever I get lost or have a question, new friendships formed and enthusiastic teachers. As a parent often I feel we can ask the wrong question of our children which can in turn trigger negative thoughts or provide a window to “vent”. Whilst these are important to listen to; I invite parents and carers to ask: “What was something good about your day?” Some wonderful conversations can emerge.

Opening School Mass

This week we celebrated the Opening School Mass. It is a significant event which officially launches the school year and the school theme. I’m often asked what makes St. Peter’s College different to the school down the road. It is within an event such as the opening school mass that the answer is found. At St. Peter’s College our vision as a Catholic community is to:

  • Aspire to lead in faith
  • Guide with love
  • Inspire through learning

We are committed to ensuring that the development of the whole person: academically, social-emotionally and spiritually are central to our mission. Students are given exposure to and asked to embrace that our community is Christ-centred in thought, word and deed. That all recognise the importance of being guided by love. All are invited into a deeper faith relationship with God, Church, self, others and creation, and, all understand the role God plays in our lives.

This year our School theme is: Take Courage; it is I. Do not be afraid. It is a calling for all to be courageous in their learning, be courageous in developing right relationships and be courageous in striving to be the best version of themselves.  The opening school mass is an event where we are invited to share in God's infinite love.

Tradition states that each new staff member is presented with a school badge proudly presenting our College motto. We welcomed the 26 news staff into the college community formally at this mass;  with a blessing encouraging all to embrace the school motto of “Be Not Afraid” in their undertakings as an educator at St. Peter’s College.

Building Projects

There is significant building taking place throughout 2019 as we continue to strive to build learning spaces to meet the demands of the 21st century learner and educator

Cranbourne Campus

Stage 1A – Arts Precinct – this build is a refurbishment of the existing Florence Williams and Breen buildings with an additional roof over the courtyard between the buildings. This will provide, within the one precinct, flexibility and functionality in the delivery of Art, Visual communication and Media. This project commences building in the next fortnight with the completion scheduled for sometime in Term 3.

VCAL Centre

The early stages of planning have commenced. This is a refurbishment of the current Donnelly building which will enable a flexible and project-based delivery of learning to our VCAL students. The design will feature elements chosen by the VCAL students themselves. This centre will commence building in July and conclude in December ready for the 2020 academic year.

Traffic Management Plan

Our traffic management plan will commence with a new staff carpark on the South-West corner of the campus. This is readiness for stage 2 of the traffic plan which sees a formal drop off zone being incorporated.

Clyde Nth Campus

Stage 6A – Hospitality/Food/Music/Drama/Dance

Construction will commence in the next fortnight. This is anticipated to be a 12 month project.

St. Peter’s College continues to commit to providing state of the art facilities to meet the demands of the 21st century learner. Our aim is to prepare today’s students with the skills for tomorrow’s world.

Swimming Carnivals

I look forward to meeting many parents at the respective campus swimming carnivals next week:

  • Cranbourne Campus – Tuesday February 19th
  • Clyde Nth Campus – Thursday February 21st

Enjoy the week ahead.
