Scotsburn News

Welcome Back

The staff at Scotsburn would like to welcome back all of our families and extend a big welcome to our new families. We hope that you all had a wonderful Christmas break. It has been a lovely settled start with everyone contributing to a relaxed and inviting atmosphere. We would like to thank the many families who watered the gardens and looked after the animals over the break. It is greatly appreciated.

Thank You

A big thanks to all of the students and families for your flexibility and understanding last Friday. Our hope was to allow the students to settle into their first 2 days of the school year at the Scotsburn Campus, but with the serious weather conditions of Friday, we decided that the safest place for all students and staff was at the Buninyong Campus. Thanks again for your understanding.

Whole School Assembly

This Friday we have our first whole school assembly at the Buninyong campus. We will meet in the courtyard at Buninyong (near the main office). After the assembly and a visit to the gym and library, we’ll make our way by bus back to Scotsburn.

Thanks Nyree & Andrew

On Monday, Nyree and Andrew Wilson arranged for the Scotsburn Campus to get a photo to mark the start of the new school year. The photo will now be framed and displayed as a part of our history up on the wall in the Old Building. All at Scotsburn would like to thank Nyree and Andrew for their amazing generosity.

New Preps

A BIG congratulations to all our new Preps who have settled in beautifully to their first week of school. It is so wonderful to see the friendships that are being formed and the enthusiasm for learning that is taking place already. Just a reminder that Preps do not attend school on Wednesdays for the month of February. Prep Interviews take place on these days. If you are unsure of your interview time, please come and see Mrs Anderson.

2020 Positions of Responsibility

As you may be aware, our Grade 6 students will be taking on extra responsibilities this year. We are excited to announce that their roles for Semester 1 will be: Indi Durham & Logan Smith (Animal Care), Mason Johns (Specialist Support – Art), Ivy Kirby (Announcements), Jackson Lyons & Despina Socratous (Fundraising), Quinn Moore (Specialist Support – PE), Bella Reid & Koby Wenzlick (Scotsburn Media) & Mallacai Windsor (Bus Monitor). We know that these students will lead the campus in a very positive and respectful way and look forward to the many exciting opportunities that they will provide the students at Scotsburn.

Welcome to 2019 Meet & Greet / Welcome Picnic

We would like to invite all of our families on Tuesday 11th February from 5pm-7pm for our first official get together of the year. This night will take the place of our Welcome Picnic and Meet & Greet that has taken place on separate nights in the past. We will begin the evening in the Multi-Purpose room (Shed) at 5.30pm with a whole campus information session when all staff will provide a snapshot of their classroom and information specific to their class. Following this will be an optional opportunity for parents to catch staff individually for a quick chat to inform them of any specific information you would like them to know. During this time, families will be free to enjoy their picnic tea together outside. This will be a lovely opportunity for families to catch up, and we hope that you can attend.

Spelling Mastery Helpers

To ensure that the students are able to work in the group that best suits their needs, we require a couple of parents to help facilitate Spelling Mastery groups on a Tuesday-Friday from 9am starting in week 3. It takes about 20 minutes, no experience is necessary and only requires you to have a current Working With Children’s Check. If you can help on all or any of the days required, please see Shaun this week.

After School Monitoring

As we know, things can get a bit hectic after school as staff work to ensure that students who should be on the bus are safely on, and parents collecting their children can do so safely. To assist with this, we kindly ask that adults drive at a safe speed. It would also be greatly appreciated if parents who are collecting their children from school could help out staff by ensuring that their children are not playing ball games near the entrance or climbing trees. We’ll always have staff on duty after school, but we also like to make ourselves available to chat to parents should they require a quick word. Many thanks in advance.

Grade Newsletters

Hopefully your child’s Term 1 grade newsletter made it home safely in their school bag! Please keep it in a safe place for your reminders throughout the term.

When – Sunday 23rd February, 10:00am –  3:30pm.

We will be participating in the Buninyong 2020 Smart Building & Living Expo again this year. Buninyong / Scotsburn students will have the opportunity to show case what opportunities they will be participating in this year. We will be exhibiting both solar boats and energy breakthrough vehicles, as well as selling plats to help assist in the cost of these fantastic opportunities our students have on offer. If you have any unwanted coffee cups and succulent cuttings can you please bring them in to school. If any in Grade 6 students would like to be involved and assist on the day can you please come and see Mrs Anderson.

Resources Needed

We are looking for clean, empty soft drink bottles as part a Sustainability project in our Friday Rotations. All students will be making something and will need a bottle for this project.

Expectations When Catching The Bus

A reminder for the students that catch the bus regarding the importance of safe and responsible behaviour. It would be great if you could also remind your children of the importance of staying in their seat, talking in a quiet voice and facing the front so as not to distract the driver.

Friday Rotations

Our first rotation for Term 1 will be on the (7th February). Our groups will be doing the following:
