Primary News

From the Deputy

It was fantastic to see the students parade their costumes during Book Week celebrations on Wednesday.  Well done to all the classes for their efforts and creativity.  Congratulations must go to the winning classes, Mrs Atkinson’s R/1 and Mr Jones’ Year 5!

Last week 13 students represented the school in the Adelaide Hills Individual Chess Championships.  The students represented the school well with both uniform and behaviour.  There were 67 children from 8 different schools competing.  Two students received awards on the day.  Titus Mosbey received a 3rd place in the Year 3 level and Layla Frahn was acknowledged with a most improved medal.  Information will be distributed regarding the next tournament when available. Well done to all who participated; you have done yourself, parents and the school proud!

The Year 3/4 camp to El Shaddai was a huge success.  Please refer to the Camp highlights below for more details.  I would like to thank the teachers for organising this wonderful experience and parents for attending (I think they had just as much fun as their child(ren)).  Well done students on your excellent and respectful behaviour.  We now look forward to the Year 5/6 camp and Year 1 and 2 late-night and sleep over in Week 8.

Due to the Book Week parade this week, the Year 3 assembly was postponed to Week 8.  However, students were treated to a time of worship and devotion.  It was great to see all involved and enjoying their time together as a community.

Primary Music Night preparation is coming together well under the wonderful direction of Mrs Sands,  set for Tuesday 24 September 2019 in the Gymnasium at 6:30pm. Flyers will come home shortly.

Take care.

Little Sprouts Kitchen

The Reception class visited Little Sprouts Kitchen at the Botanic Gardens. We spent the morning exploring different garden creatures, making pesto and planting peas. In the afternoon, we used maps to explore the rest of the gardens and marvel at God’s beautiful creations. What a wonderful God we have!

Gorge Wildlife Park

This week the Year 1s went to Gorge Wildlife Park. Children were introduced to Prickle the Koala, the Sleepy Lizard and a snake before they had fun feeding the kangaroos. As we explored the Wildlife Park, children also enjoyed feeding the camels, monkeys and birds.

Year 2 at Adelaide Zoo

On Tuesday the Year 2 class visited the Adelaide Zoo as part of our HASS studies on Asia. The students had a great time exploring the different animal enclosures. We were also treated to a Book Week education activity that allowed us to learn about some of the amazing features that animals have to enable them to survive in their environments.

Our God's creation is truly amazing!

Year 3/4 Camp - El Shaddai

El Shaddai at Wellington was a new location for the Year 3 / 4 camp in 2019.  Set close to the Murray River this campsite offered plenty for the students to enjoy all day.  The bunk rooms boasted their own bathrooms and a heater in each room!  Students were able to enjoy a wide variety of free-time activities like the tarzan swing, flying fox, air hockey and pool, table tennis, trampolines and giant chess and of course, ball games like basketball.

The food was amazing and the teachers were pleased to find out there was a recipe book available!  The students took it in turns to set up or pack up for each meal and enjoyed schnitzel, wedges and vegies for dinner.  The breakfast cereal favourite was the Nutrigrain!  For supper the children enjoyed choc chip cookies made on site. Yum!

The daytime activities were rotated through each group over the 2 days.  Each activity had its own challenges.  Some were cooperation, decision making, physical strength, fear of heights, or balance.  One thing was sure, the students all had their favourite activity or a proud moment of achievement where they had overcome some difficulty. These activities included the low ropes challenge, laser skirmish, archery, the vertical challenge, rock wall climbing and the giant swing.

Our nighttime fun included several games of storm the lantern, group hide and seek and a movie in the hall.

It was a wonderful camp full of lots of excitement that was very well run by the staff at El Shaddai.
